RE: Star Citizen - Did you pledge & what do you expect? - Error - 02-14-2015

Picked up the physical Freelancer pack, a few skins and a metal citizen card with the number 0095 on it when it was announced; can't say that I've ever looked much at it since then, as I feel it's far too early to get involved or hyped for the release when it is so far away. It still staggers me that a game that is so far away from release has such a large community around it already.

All I'm really expecting from it is a full release at some point, and I'm not really planning on playing any of the modules before that's out. I usually find it more fun to jump into things without knowing too much about the details and features of it in advance, and that has the added bonus of saving me from being disappointed as well! Tongue

PS: Sterlin, wouldn't that be rather close to the definition of Freelancer 2.0? It's a prettier and better funded take on the same concept by the same man who directed FL and a heap of other good space combat/trading games. I don't think anybody's expecting (nor really hoping for) it to be a Freelancer remake nor a direct successor to it, but rather the good spaceship MMO that FL never really got to be.

it doesn't carry on the story where Freelancer left off,

That's a good thing. Because frankly, the setting of the Freelancer universe with space-america, space-japan, space-britain, and space-nazi-germany is frickin stupid. The only thing that could possibly make that setting more stupid was adding space-france. Of course it lets you add all sorts of stereotypes into RP characters that can make things hilarious, but at the end of the day it's still an incredibly stupid future scenario.

When im thinking of Star Citizen as Freelancer 2.0 then i dont mean that it looks like Freelancer.
And also not of the storyline, the ships, the systems nor a space-nazi-germany (LOL).
I am thinking about the freelancer intro movie what is a kind of vision of a game they could not make in 2003.
But now they can and i think they are trying, if i look at the atmosphere and design style,
i really do think they are trying to make Freelancer like they couldnt in 2003, but is in the movie.
And also the general idea of Freelancer, that you can be whoever you want and do whatever you like is directly copied.
But thats based upon what i think now, maybe it will turn out to be different when its published.

I put down around £40 on it and I'm not expecting amazing things. Truth be told I'm banking on it being as half-arsed as freelancer was back in the day. The only difference is the fully supported modding tools/manual that'll be coming with it, to me that means anything that RSI cocks up the community has the possibility of fixing and like freelancer, spawn far more interesting variations.

I will be shocked if SC is even halfway approachable from a modding standpoint in the fashion that Discovery persons are accustomed to.

Someone with half a beer and the desire to make a space crab can bust out a decent model in Freelancer, Star Citizen is on an insanely different level.

So there'll be a lot of playing with existing assets from that standpoint.

I don't see how 100GB is a problem, as long as they will get DVD version to stores it's fine.
Big game size is good thing as it means that graphics are going to be awesome.

Unsurprising really with the level of detail they've gone to, plus all the ships interiors, you'd only need to look at one of the ingame screenshots to know it's gonna be a monster sized game.

12 grand for what amounts to pixels seems a bit out there but if people are willing to pay that much then I say let them, I personally know someone who has spent £300 on it and I'm in a corp with a guy who has easily spent 3 grand plus. They get what they want and are happy to pay for it, in return everyone gets a slightly better game and a longer lived PU. It's a win win.
As for the 75 mill, we don't know how much of that will turn out to be a net profit, currently it's just a pool of funds until the game is released.

Where is the option "Star Citizen will increase Discovery Community, if Disco decides to make a mod for SC" 8)
