Une Introduction à l'ONI - Faction Information

The Office of Naval Intelligence is the highly selective and highly insular intelligence arm of the Gallic Royal Navy. Official records indicate that the ONI was founded simultaneously with the GRN itself, but there have been many long periods of silence from the organization, leading many to question its continued existence.

In reality, the ONI has always existed, but has, at times, fallen from the good graces of either the monarch or the Grand Maréchal, leading to budget cuts and a reduced role. Those at the top of the Gallic political/military structure are justifiably uncomfortable with an intelligence agency being given too much autonomy, so the modern ONI has been kept on a short leash by GRN command. However, Gallia has never been without enemies, now more than ever.

The ONI has played only a small role in the Gallic invasion of Sirius, primarily being relegated to forward reconnaissance duties for the advancing primary force. However, ONI agents have also been carefully embedded into the organizations of several major Sirian enemies, and have provided some high-value intel at great risk. With the numerous small successes ONI orchestrated within recent years, it was on the rise prior to the shocking betrayal and subsequent defection of the previous Directeur. Now, ONI's leash has been tightened once again, forcing the newly appointed Directeur to reorganize the entire organization and purge nearly all active agents.

Following this intensive restructuring, ONI is bound even tighter to the Royal Navy as a whole, with the new Directeur having been hand-picked directly by Naval High Command. With the organisation's loyalty all but assured, given the close scrutiny the Office is now under, funding has increased dramatically. With billions of francs and boundless resources at their disposal, the Office is primed for a meteoric rise once more, and seeks to expand its scope into all reaches of Sirius.

Objectifs du département - Goals of the ONI

The importance of the Office of Naval Intelligence can be summarized in four main tasks its agents strive to fulfill.
  • Providing scope for Royal Naval movements with appropriate intelligence.
  • Covert operations deep behind enemy lines.
  • Working with the Royal Navy in a combat capacity if required.
  • Restructuring and rebuilding Gallia's intelligence network in Sirius.

La Convention de Nommage - Naming Convention

The following identification rules apply to all agents working for the Office of Naval Intelligence:

GRN|ONI-'Codename'

While operating overtly, agents of the Office of Naval Intelligence follow this naming convention and are required to identify themselves with a Gallic Royal Navy ID and a transponder emitting a Gallic Royal Navy IFF.

GRN|ONI-Shipname

The standard designation for the few capital ships operated by the Office of Naval Intelligence. This includes Gunboat class and Cruiser class vessels. Capital ships of the Royal Navy are named after towns, cities, or regions of the French nation of Sol.

Firstname.Lastname 1
or
Codename 2

During covert operations, agents of the Office of Naval Intelligence are not required to follow the same identification rules. They may identify as civilians, or adapt to identification and naming conventions of organizations they infiltrate.

1 Agents of the ONI will never publicly disclose their real name.
2 The codenames used in covert operations may not match any codename of any vessels operating overly.

La procédure de Recrutement - Recruitment

Recruitment in ONI is a highly selective process. Operatives work under both overt and covert areas of assignment, switching between the two tiers as the directorate requires.

The Office maintains a slightly different rank structure from the Royal Navy, in accordance with its different duties and obligations. Rank structure is attached below.

The information about individuals listed in this entry is highly confidential and not accessible to the public.
It may not be released to anyone outside the ONI without the express approval of the current Directeur.

Directorat de l'ONI - ONI Directorate

Directeur

The Office of Naval Intelligence is under total control of the Directeur. He coordinates and controls all efforts of the Office, but is rarely seen in the field - preferring instead to work through his Agents Supérieurs. He is appointed directly by the High Command of the Royal Navy, to ensure loyalty to the Crown and smooth cooperation between the Office and the Primary Fleet. This rank is equivalent to a Colonel of the main fleet.
  • The ONI is currently lead by Directeur Victor Pelletier.

Agent Supérieur

Agents Supérieurs are the best the Office has to offer. Appointed by the Directeur himself, these men and women are the executors of his will. While the Directeur maintains total control over the Office, it is the Agents Supérieurs whom he makes use of to command and spearhead operations as a whole. It is not uncommon for agents of this level to coordinate many operations at once, ensuring that each and every one is carried out with the utmost efficiency. This rank is equivalent to a Commandant of the main fleet.
  • Agents Supérieurs: Marius Duval

Agents subalternes - Subordinate agents

Agent Spécial

Hand-picked by the Directorate, the Agents Spécials ensure that the operations and orders given by their superiors are carried out efficiently. Occasionally, an agent of this level may even spearhead a major, groundbreaking operation independently, with a member of the Directorate acting merely as an overseer, although this is uncommon. More usually, Agents Spécials act as a liason between the Directorate and the agent body as a whole, relaying commands down the chain to other agents; or as the mouthpiece of a Directorate member, working with external entities on their behalf. This rank is equivalent to a Capitaine of the main fleet.
  • Agents Spécials: Mercie Michaud

Agent 1ère classe

Functionally similar to their subordinates, these agents have distinguished themselves by virtue of exceptional skill and talent in their fields. They are sometimes left in charge of coordinating minor operations, with a cadre of Agents 2èmes under their command. This rank is equivalent to a Lieutenant of the main fleet.
  • Agents 1ères classes: Adrienne Solène

Agent 2ème classe

Upon promotion to Agent 2ème classe, candidates are recognized as fully-fledged agents of the ONI. They make up the majority of the Office's personnel, and are technically authorized to carry out assignments on their own - although, in almost all cases, they work under a senior agent as a specialized operative. While not as glamorous a position as the higher levels within the organisation, the Agents 2èmes are the lifeblood of the Office, providing it with the means and men necessary to undertake such a vast scope of operations simultaneously. This rank is equivalent to a Sous-Lieutenant of the main fleet.
  • Agents 2èmes classes: Narcisse Lemieux

Agent Candidat

These agents are the newly drafted trainees of the Office. While they spend most of their time at the academy, they may accompany superior operatives on a sortie to gather experience in the field. They hold little actual authority, but may still act as enforcers of the King's will should a desperate need arise. Nothing less than excellence is permitted within the Office, and Agents Candidats are always kept under close watch to ensure standards are upheld. This rank is equivalent to an Aspirant of the main fleet.
