Calling all IT-Hackers - Makc_RU - 04-17-2014

Hello.

I am using D-Link 601 router. For some reason I can not login as an Admin. When I log into the router I have 2 log-in options:

- Admin
- User

When I login as User everything works fine, but I can not access certain features that I need to change.

I have not changed the password for the router and I have made an extensive research about default D-Link passwords, so I tried them all and they do not work. I get Invalid Password.

When I try to enter the password for Admin, lets say Admin, the input field shows it as ***** (5 asterics). But when I press LOGIN button the input field adds about 5 more asterics to what I have already entered. So instead of ^^^^^ i have something like **********. I don't know if that is a normal behavior.

I have tried resetting the router to the factory settings by pressing the RESET button for specified times and even longer. It does not work.

My router has Advanced DNS enabled and I am getting hijacked to the D-Link search engine ( more info is here: Hijack: http://www1.dlinksearch.com/

So, if you know how to hack or reset this damn thing or have any useful suggestions please help me out here.

Thanks.

"4. Hold for about 5 seconds (don’t hold too long) and then release. (Or, release when M1 and M2 flash at the same time.)" Link
Hope that may help.

Manual says there shouldn't be an admin password after reset. Have you tried leaving the password field blank?

Maybe you need to reflash the firmware <.<

This

Sometimes if there's corruption within the firmware it can lead the router to act abnormal/buggy. It's definitely a last resort to fixing the issue.

Does not work, just did it. It still adds the *** when i leave password blank and incorrect password. Although the router was reset to the factory settings.

http://malwaretips.com/blogs/www1-dlinksearch-com-removal/
Browser Hijacking, use Rkill, Malwarebytes, Combofix, and Super Anti-Spyware for removal
Also it may be a good time to invest in a new router, this brand is pretty solid, I've encountered trouble with D-Link products years ago.
