Widescreen/graphical issues (Adoxa's site and JFLP?) - Orin - 05-03-2014

I'm getting back into Freelancer again, and since I'm looking to play through it Vanilla again with non-invasive mods, I'm trying to get things working nicely with only resolution support and texture mods.

I was able to get it running at 1920x1080 with this guide, but unfortunately I'm having some odd problems with this method. After following that guide, everything in my game looked like a splotchy fresco painting. Somehow the game had reverted to 16-bit. I was able to change it back to 32-bit in the PerfOptions file, changing it to this (as are the same settings that are there by default in the freelancer.ini, besides the resolution):

[Display]
size= 1920, 1080
color_bpp= 32
depth_bpp= 32

Sadly every time I launch the game (even using new save files), it reverts to this:

[Display]
size= 1920, 1080
color_bpp= 32
depth_bpp= 24

So while the game now looks much better than it did at 16-bit, things are still very splotchy and running in 24-bit.

Very frustrating, because at this point I have no idea how to solve the issue. My next step is to reinstall and try using JFLP for widescreen resolution support, but every link I find to download it sends me to a dead domain or a non-working site. Does anyone have the zip file for JFLP and HudShift that they can upload?

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

(For reference I'm running the game on Win7 64-bit and haven't had any problems there.)

You're referring me to this simply for the widescreen function of it, right? Can this be used with Vanilla, considering it's called "Discovery" Launchpad?

It might work; there's no harm in trying as it won't corrupt your actual Freelancer installation. If it doesn't, adoxa's website has the "hudshift" mod available, which you can download and install independently of other mods (unless there's other stuff in JFLP that you want; I can't remember if JFLP includes Hudshift). That will get you running at your desired resolution, but I'm not sure about the colour stuff.

Has adoxa moved to a new host? The recent site (http://adoxa.hostmyway.net) no longer exists.

Edit: Dug around a bit and found

It might have moved to here, except that website is also down at the moment. I'll ask around.

Edit: Zed found it.

Yeah, I tried Discovery Launchpad to no avail. Wouldn't change the resolution of a fresh Vanilla install, so no help there.

I asked where to grab Adoxa's stuff on Starport though and Adoxa linked me the new site (Zed posted it above). Installed JFLP, went back into the PerfOptions file and set things how they should be, and bam, no more fresco paintings in the skies and shadows.

Not sure what in the world was causing it, but I think I've got things under control now. Just throwing in some texture mods here and there to make things look nice. The "HD FL" mod is a FLMM file only from the looks of it, and the texture it uses for the starscapes is horrible looking compared to ones I found elsewhere, so it's a no go on that one. I'm picking and choosing files from Bo!'s "Swag Pack", some ship textures, interface stuff, etc.

I'm looking for some character retextures now (probably just for the main characters). Hell, might even take a shot making Trent, Juni, etc textures myself if I could figure out what files to screw around with and how to extract/open them.

I guess most people here stick to Discovery (I was the same way years ago), but do you guys know of any good retexture bits and pieces? Characters specifically?

I'm pretty certain that if you rename the file type to .zip, you should be able to extract it and apply the files manually.

Nice to know, thanks!

(I probably knew somewhere in the bottomless pit that is my mind. Not exactly new to modding Freelancer, but years of inactivity will screw you up.)
