Macs are widely known to be less effected by viruses and such than windows machines, and run much smoother on top of it. I'm thinking about switching to a mac when I buy my next computer (as mine is hosed right now due to viruses and web hijackers that i cant seem to get rid of)... but I'm not sure if FL can even run on one.

EDIT: On a side note, I think there are only 2 viruses in existence that affect Mac's

Oh it is possible but you have to install windows first. My buddy (Taropsyche) trades with me regularly and he brings his macbook over to my house. I forget what program he uses to load XP but it is very doable.

The Macintosh Operating System's security is due purely to having been developed from a BSD Kernel, and as such has inherited as well as developed a serious set of security protocols. Its also due to the fact that not many people bother to write viruses for Unix based operating systems.

But the catch is you can get the same kind of security from Linux without having to buy new hardware, something Apple forces you to do. Using Linux in combination with Transgaming Cedega you should be able to play Freelancer, assuming you have proper driver support under Linux.

I would highly suggest looking into Linux before Mac OS simply because of its free nature and the level of control over your OS you get with Linux, something that's inherently restricted with Mac.
