Textures and such - Connor - 10-07-2014

I've got two problems.

1) First of all, I've changed the Sabres textures with a Bret Destroyer. Yeah... How do I change this back? How do I reset the textures.

2) Where do I even find textures that are not in the Discovery\Data\ships? Example

Edit: Okay, so I worded that quite badly and I've just rephrased it.

RE: Textures and such - Outro - 10-07-2014

bw_vheavy_fighter.cmp is a vanilla model and hence can be found on two places:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Freelancer\DATA\SHIPS\BORDER_WORLD\BW_VHEAVY_FIGHTER
C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Discovery Freelancer 4.87.0\DATA\SHIPS\BORDER_WORLD\BW_VHEAVY_FIGHTER

I guess you modified the second one. Just copy the untouched bw_vheavy_fighter.cmp file from Program Files into the AppData folder.

All textures (Vanilla + Discovery) are placed in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Freelancer\Textures. So if you haven't modified those, you should be fine.

Thanks for the help. Reinstalling Freelancer now (Because for some reason I haven' got vanilla Freelancer)

Edit: I can't seem to find the texture folder. Slightly lost.

Edit 2: I've only found this folder

RE: Textures and such - evanz - 10-07-2014

you must of had vanilla FL as disco takes files from it

RE: Textures and such - Connor - 10-08-2014

Yes, but I must have uninstalled it somewhere

RE: Textures and such - Auriec - 10-08-2014

Many, if not most textures, are stored in .mat files, as far as as I could conclude. Maybe copying DATA\SHIPS\BORDER_WORLD\bw_ships.mat from vanilla Freelancer to Disco might help, as it should contain textures for the vanilla Borderworld ships.

RE: Textures and such - Outro - 10-08-2014

You're right, LordVipex. I previously thought that .mat files simply adress textures in /Textures folder (just like .mtl when exporting .obj). Obviously, I was wrong and .mat files are actual material libraries. Or not?

RE: Textures and such - Auriec - 10-08-2014

They are. Here are the textures that the borderworld ships mat contains, for example. You'll quickly notice that these are indeed used for the BW shipline, so it is safe to assume that these are the libraries for textures. If you changed the texture, you can probably revert it by resetting it (copying the files from a clean install, if you forgot to make a backup).

I've seen several of those in the folders with ships but I never knew what they were for. When autodesk asks me to find the textures, can I just point it there?
