Making the Sigmas alive again, among other things ! - Alley - 10-28-2014

One of the things that came out of the Lib-Rheinland end of the war thread is that a lot of people seem afraid their turtles will become useless.

What we can do is move the battleground somewhere else that still allows us to carry on with the story.

The proposal here is to move the Liberty - Rheinland conflict to the Sigmas instead of Texas/Hamburg. Before you wonder why the hell this would happen, read the following.

In 4.87 final, a LOT of the buffer systems are getting removed and some new paths are also getting created. For instance, Ellesmere is getting completely redesigned and turned into a Sigmas system (who liked this system anyway). So instead of getting sent to the Omicrons directly, the LN players will have to go through the Sigmas.

There has been some discussions about opening up the Sigmas and upper Omicrons to RM a few days ago and I think this could be a perfect way to keep this Liberty-Rheinland conflict alive for those that like it while we could re-establish the trade between the two houses, thus re-enabling the Tri/Quad House trade runs.

This way, the story moves forward and we keep that Liberty-Rheinland battleground open for those that want it (publicly disavowed battles). With this activity in mind, this would cause the GMG to become more active to defend their H-Fuel clouds in the region and we could add Kusari as a cherry. There's also no doubt the Corsairs, OCs and Order wouldn't join the party.

All of this would create a big activity hub in the Sigmas and Upper Omicrons (lots of things happening there by the way).

With the shrinking of the universe, the diversity of the battlegrounds and the carrier update to spend less time travelling instead of fighting/roleplaying, I honestly believe we're on a good way to fix things and make the game more enjoyable. However, as always we can't know for sure if you don't voice your input on these matters. So now's the time, let us know !

This idea about connecting Liberty with Sigmas will make a lot of troubles for Kruger. Kruger only sell point now is Kusari and Gallia. And Sigmas are already hostile enough by presence of GMG, Outcasts, Corsairs and countless other pirates waiting for traders, so adding Liberty to equation will make the only Kruger route to sell point even much more harder to traverse. I'm not counting smuggling ores through Bretonia to Kusari and Gallia cause that is super dangerous and we don't do it.

With the return of trading, you could just go through Liberty.

Will developers force Liberty and Rheinland to open trade or will it be left up to players represeting governments?

Glad to hear northern sirius is getting some more interesting stuffs #notbiased

Also: with Liberty now able to go into the sigmas, do we finally get an explination as to why there were avengers aboard Freeport7?

That is very simple and from times of vanilia. Houses (but mainly RM and LN) were competing over exploration and exploitation of border worlds. Freeport 7 was logical staging point to the edge worlds. Tinker toy was digged from a planet Pygar in Theta, jump away from Sigma 17, starting the whole campaign off with a bang. Rheinlanders got massive infestation resulting from their own sorties out, Liberty was also getting affected to a lesser degree. Also there is an artifact of older times to think of it: Alaska was meant as Liberty's connection point to Sigmas. Why would Trent and other survivors be shipped all the way to NY? This is kinda plot hole here.

As for Sigmas... Order will surely get involved and I hope we will be able to leave a mark in the region.

In my opinion, the reason why Liberty-Rheinland works as it is, is that there's almost always a RNC or two online in Rheinland, and always a LNS or two online in Liberty.

That gives either side incentive to log, as guaranteed interaction is right there.

When you displace a conflict to backwater systems like the Sigmas, you won't be finding idling RNC'ers or LNS'ers. You'll have to be lucky that someone the other side logs, or you'll have to organize it in advance. Look at Leeds for example.

I hope knowledge of player behavior and activity factors into your decisions.

That being said, I like that Corsairs and Liberty will meet properly for the first time, if the fight is brought to the Sigmas.

Or maybe those Defender / Guardian ships you see leaving Freeport 7 are just escorts which are together with that transport.

I would like answer too. You may force the end of the war, but if you even want to force RP around it including law changes and trading restrictions, then there will be no reason in RPing government anymore (and spending hours by making laws). And I´m saying that despite Rheinland will get more than Liberty if the trade will be cut from all war restrictions as at the moment we allow Lib corps much more (and they will probably get even more soon) than Liberty is allowing to Rhein corps.

EDIT: By the way, for return of trading, restoring of Bering and Hudson gates would be very handy. Do you plan to do this?

But to the OP - to be honest, I would rather try "Sigma-13/Honshu eintopf" which I proposed in thread about end of Lib-Rhein war than trying to relocate conflict to Sigmas. My proposal will give activity to all factions around including dying Kusari.

Quote:I think the best way how to do it would be already proposed civil war. And if set right, it may even give some action to Rheinland as well. I mean if for example if Blood Dragons takes control over Honshu system, claiming empire there, Kusari can ask Rheinland for help. But that means going through Sigma-13. GMG would be against it of course (they will support the Dragons and if not, Dragons can push them to do it).

So Rheinland with Kusari´s open or secret approval invades Sigma-13 and capture major part of it (or even whole system). This can create interesting "eintopf" where republican forces of Kusari (probably with Hogosha on their side) are fightining Blood Dragons (and maybe also parts of KNF which still feel loyalty to emperor) in New Tokyo and Honshu, while Rheinland is mining helium which they desperately need for their snubs (after GMG will cut them off after invasion) in Sigma-13, protecting there their miners from guerilla attacks from GMG and even occasional Corsair attacks. But in same time, Rheinland Expeditionary Forces start first fights in Honshu against Blood Dragons (as very likely also GMG and even Chrysanthemums).

One of the possible scenarios how to create new front for Rheinland and large scale war for Kusari. Just my little idea, don´t hit me...

Aaaaaand how will that look like exactly? "Hey, I still hate you and you still hate me, but let's forget all our differences here and cease the trade embargo while we actually don't forget our differences at all and keep punching eachother in the face elsewhere, how about that?" I can't really imagine a logical and plausible scenario resulting in what you plan to do, please help me out at that, will you?
