Poll: The Anticheat - Alley - 05-21-2015

We recently toughened up the obfuscation on several discovery DLLs and it caused quite a lot of false positive problems with antiviruses.

This is the results with the megaobfuscated dll: https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/942e4c36c2aab5b5157f4da3c11a73d5a04a1fe56691ae410717f38ae3b6198c/analysis/
with the basic obfuscation: https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/eabfc2020bef94b4895d4e06f9f77c29e5a300b1603a2c4242b9701b8718dae1/analysis/1431776474/

We're soon going to release a new C++11 based DSAce.dll so this is a chance to get input on what you as a community member is willing to endure whenever we need to update DSAce.

What prompted us to use tougher obfuscation compared to earlier is because we've seen a surge of people attempting to modify their DSAce.dll in an attempt to fool the anticheat, which didn't work in almost all cases. There was also a case of a community member paying with real dosh a third-party programmer to bypass the anticheat.

This begs the question as unfortunately the toughter obfuscation caused more problems than anything: Are you willing to deal with antivirus false positives or deal with a potential surge of cheaters ingame?

Cheaters ruin the Game any means necessary use them end their miserable cheating existences. I can deal with the occasional false positives. However cheaters just ruin everything.

Pretty much. False positives can be sorted out with 10 minutes of work. Cheaters usually can't.

Cheaters never win and winners never cheat. I support option 1.

That

RE: Poll: The Anticheat - Venkman - 05-21-2015

Option 1 all the way.

RE: Poll: The Anticheat - Laura C. - 05-21-2015

I had to deal with false positive only once on my antivirus. I just turned it off during download and installation of update, then everything was fine. So I guess I will rather do this from time to time than having to face cheaters ingame.

By the way...

Wow. Someone so desperately wanted to cheat to be able to "win" here that he spent money for it? Unbelievable.

This. Also, my AV is listed as not having a problem with the mega-obfuscated dll, so i have no problem with it.

Any decent antivirus should have feature to add DSLauncher to a "safe/trusted" list. It's actually easy to do (linked 3 screenshots)

Just thought I'd post a little reminder since I'm trying to retrieve damaged files from a machine that got its Windows system files damaged and half the work documents are corrupted. The PC had Microsoft Security Essentials installed in case you're wondering.
