The Brotherhood [TBH] - Faction Status - The Brotherhood - 10-12-2008

The Brotherhood is an ancient Corsair fellowship that guards the Corsair People with Vigor and Honor.

+ Lore of the Corsair People

During the Exodus, the Terran Western Alliance Sleeper Ship Hispania, once known by its codename the ASF-3, barely made it to the Sirius Sector. The Hispania was damaged, though whether it was sabotage or a critical malfunction remains a mystery. It drifted for years, eventually being caught by a star's gravity somewhere in the mysterious Edge Nebula. Roughly half of the colonists decided to seek out the other Colony Ships, but having ran out of fuel, were forced to land on the barren wasteland they named Planet Crete, and these became the Corsairs. The other half of the colonists opted to land on the closest world to the Hispania wreck, and became the Outcasts, who ended up creating a terrible drug empire and with whom the Corsairs have had many conflicts. The location of Planet Crete near the cold, red star "Antigua" had only a few arable patches of land. Thus, the Corsair People were forced to build their cities in the mountain regions, so that the little usable land would remain free from urban development. This is the root cause of the greatest threat to the Corsair People: famine.

Many generations after settling down in Crete, the Corsairs became aware of the other Sirius colonists when they were discovered by the Rheinland Expeditionary Cruiser RNC Schiller. This event was key to the development of Corsair technology, since Rheinland was one of the most advanced Houses in Sirius at the time. With the unlocked secrets of the ancient and mysterious "Daam K'Vosh" civilization that were first published by the study of the Valhalla-1 alien archives in Liberty and then uniquely developed by each major house, the Corsair People were able to infuse this now common-knowledge Sirius technology with both Rheinland technological advancements and the valuable insight obtained from the abundant active alien artifacts in their immediate vicinity. The Corsairs also become some of the finest ship builders, having exclusive access to the large deposits of metallic elements found in their native system. Their dreaded "Titan", an armored heavy fighter, stands vigil over Corsair interests everywhere.

Economic power, the most practical complement to their undisputed technological superiority, originated from the trade of inert alien artifacts that were also left behind by the Daam K'Vosh in the Edge Worlds of the Sirius Sector. It wasn't until contact was firmly established with the other houses, beginning with the Zoners, that the worth of these strange objects was realized, and the Corsairs began to make a large profit from their right of passage. The Corsairs have a special ritual, which involves a teenager on the verge of becoming an adult, to fly into a mysterious jump hole on the edge of the system, and retrieve one of these inert alien artifacts from the insidious Nomads that haunt the jump hole. A stable economy, state-of-art technology, and dedicated training have all allowed the Corsair People to greatly expand. They have multiple bases throughout Sirius, although these are mostly concealed locations and safe zones established using the factions under their influence.

Overall, the Corsairs are considered one of the most valiant groups in Sirius, and coupled with their imposing presence, they are one of the most hated groups as well. The Corsair People are led by the Council of Elders, whose members are selected to ensure the survival of their loved ones. Corsairs are frequently involved in deadly battles against the Red Hessians and the Bounty Hunters Guild that occasionally manage to penetrate Corsair systems, and in territorial conflicts with their lost Hispanic siblings, the Outcasts of Malta.

+ History of The Brotherhood

The Core Values of The Brotherhood are Vigor and Honor. Every member of The Brotherhood is considered a Guardian of the Corsair People and taught to place the lives of their brethren before his or her own life. They prefer to rely on military effectiveness and strategy instead of diplomacy, because diplomacy often leads to costly compromise and corruption. The Brotherhood is led by a Consul and a Proconsul, who besides Vigor and Honor, also wield the Temperance and Wisdom necessary to guide and protect the Corsair People.

The greatest enemy of the Corsair People are the Red Hessians, whose lust for power and revenge threatens to consume the shattered Hispania and a weakened Rheinland. We have fought many battles over the years, against all revealed enemies of the Corsairs. The history of The Brotherhood is lined with the names of those who have selflessly given their lives for their brethren and allies. Our brotherhood has lost too many good men and women in its first attempt to secure a key portion of Rheinland space, for which many valiantly sacrificed themselves, the final great loss being the noble Battleship Altaneria.

When the jumphole to Omicron Alpha in the Omicron Theta system fell out of alignment, The Brotherhood was forced to fight a bloody war against the Outcasts, which resulted in a marginal victory. With the majority of the Bretonian Armed Forces lost in war against Kusari, The Brotherhood began plans to acquire Planet Cambridge as a food source, plans that were delayed by the arrival of the ruthless and mighty House Gallia.

Despite great sacrifices and critical losses, The Brotherhood always manages to protect the Corsair People alongside regular Corsair men and women. Although their ancestors failed long ago to find Planet Madrid for their children, Planet Stuttgart in Rheinland space and Planet Cambridge in Bretonian space remain the best solutions for the famine that threatens to extinguish the remaining Corsair lives, for which The Brotherhood also stands as the first line of defense.

The Road To Rheinland - Part IV

The First Corsair Northern Fleet was assembled, and the Elders' new of plans for the invasion Rheinland were ready to put into action. Instead of annihilating the Red Hessians first as originally planned, the new plans consisted of a more direct assault and a lightning-fast takeover of Frankfurt. Moving down from Omicron Gamma into Sigma-13, the Corsair Northern Fleet met heavy resistance from Dragon and Outcast joint forces. A large battle ensued, with losses on both sides. Not halting their plans, the Elders decided that Yanagi was to be the staging point of the invasion into Frankfurt, rather than taking the depot over by force. Hogosha agents were unable to provide a large enough distraction for the Outcasts and Blood Dragons using their connections. It became clear that relying on Kusari foreigners to fulfill such an important task was a mistake. The weakened Northern Fleet commenced their attack on Frankfurt after clearing Sigma-13 of hostile forces.

The Road To Rheinland - Part V

Corsair scouts failed to correctly determine the size of the Rheinland Military forces deployed to Frankfurt and the Rheinlanders somehow knew of the incoming invasion. When the vanguard force led by The Brotherhood jumped in, they were immediately met by the full force of two Rheinland Military battlegroups, commanded by Admiral Krieg and Admiral Hiltraud. Though eventually driven back to Planet Holstein, the Rheinland Military crushed the morale of the Corsair Northern Fleet by inflicting key losses into The Brotherhood. Subsequently, the fleet was decimated in a series of retaliatory strikes by Rheinland Military forces in the area. With their battle strength dropping rapidly, the First Corsair Northern Fleet began their retreat. The operation was a complete failure. No one could have foreseen such a turn of events. The Brotherhood experienced the full power of the Rheinland Military for the first time.

The Road To Rheinland - Part VI

Instead of securing their borders, the Rheinland Military pushed through behind the Corsair Northern Fleet that was still led by The Brotherhood's surviving captains. With Rheinland intercepting retreating Corsair forces in Sigma-17, a battle for survival ensued. Corsair ships were mercilessly gunned down by the Rheinlanders, even the flagship of the Corsair Northern Fleet, the Battleship Altaneria of The Brotherhood, was destroyed. The loss of the beloved Corsair Elder and selfless hero, Pedro Maniaco, who went down with the Altaneria, made it a very sad day for the Corsair People. Many years later, a new generation of honorable warriors emerged in The Brotherhood, again wielding the strength and courage to rid the Omega Cluster of the Hessian scourge. Conveniently, Rheinland eventually became locked in war against Liberty, a force twice their size. Regardless of which side was actually victorious, the Frankfurt and Dresden systems were significantly weakened once military forces are redeployed to Hamburg. The Red Hessians took the opportunity to claim Dresden, but in our inner circles this was considered as a strategic mistake by the Council of Elders...

The Invasion of Bretonia - Prelude

With Bretonia weakened due to their war with Kusari, The Brotherhood's leaders determined that the right time for an organized push into Cambridge was about to arrive. With their defeat to the Rhienlanders still in their minds, the Elders decided one of the largest blunders of the campaign had been the stretching of their supply lines. In an attempt to develop a better staging point towards Bretonia, The first steps of The Brotherhood's operations in Bretonia are setting up safe zones and securing relations with the Zoners who inhabit the outskirts of Bretonian space, with the Gaians who have the knowledge that may hold keys to victory, and with the ruthless newcomer House Gallia whose raw power can be made to serve the Corsair People.

+ Capital Ship Fleet of The Brotherhood

>Battleship Prox (Retired from Service) - The first battleship of The Brotherhood, Osiris-class, commanded by the First Elder captain Alexander. This mighty warship was the first Brotherhood battleship to protect the Corsair People. After a short but very intense tour of service, the Prox was decommissioned and replaced by the Altaneria. Three years after its final battle, the Battleship Prox had its impulse drive replaced by an Aegis shield core and it supported Cretan defences and protected the headquarters of The Brotherhood.

>Battleship Altaneria (Lost in Service) - Once a jewel of the Corsair Armada, the Altaneria was an Osiris-class battleship, commanded by the Old Elders of The Brotherhood, and led many victorious offensives. It was lost in the attempt to invade Frankfurt.

>Battleship Fes (Stationed in Crete orbit) - First and only battleship converted from Osiris to new Murmillo design. Badly damaged in Omega battles against joint forces of Coalition and Red Hessians. Pushed Hessian flagship Alvin Katz back to Hessian drydocks, deployed boarding parties to destroy Veirnheim base and retreated towards Gamma. Patched at Rhodes, but being obsolete by new designs, currently good only for defending Crete from orbit.

>Battleship Delos (Fully operational) - New advanced design developed from Osiris class. Class name: Murmillo. Currently safeguarding Corsair borders in Omicron Xi.

>Battleship Athos (Lightly damaged during Gallic wars) - Class name: Murmillo. Repaired in space with Zoners help. Currently safeguarding Corsair assets in deep Omegas.

>Battleship Barcelona (Fully operational) - Class name: Legate. Old jewel of Kusari Armada is back. Victorious in acquiring fuel deposits of Sigmas.

>Battleship Memoria (Flagship) - The current flagship of The Brotherhood, a Legate-class Dreadnought, commanded by the Elders.

>The Cazadora - The most renowned Brotherhood Cruiser in service. Praefect-class.

>The Cannonera - The oldest Gunboat of The Brotherhood, Imperator-class, captained by many members of The Brotherhood over the years.

+ Rules and Behavior in The Brotherhood

-IFF Signal Tag Type: Corsairs

-Transponder Code Type: Corsair ID

-Transponder Code Family: The Brotherhood ID

-RolePlay (RP) Notes: Ever-improving RolePlay (RP) is very important. Our Core Values, Vigor and Honor, which are expected from every member both ingame and out of the game, take precedence at all times, and RP follows very closely. Members must use system chat and local chat only for RolePlaying, while also posting in Brotherhood RolePlay threads, creating or enriching the works of fellow members and RolePlayers. The Brotherhood believes that respect is not something that is earned, but it is offered out of honor to all because it is a necessity; admiration, however, must be earned. The combination of premium RolePlay and a selfless attitude earns players admiration. Members of The Brotherhood must be a shining example for others in every way, in all circumstances, and at all times.

-Character Naming Guidelines:
---Firstname.Lastname[TBH]
---Callsign[TBH]
---Shipname[TBH]
---Rank.Lastname[TBH] - Possibilities: Elder.Lastname[TBH] , Consul.Lastname[TBH] , Proconsul.Lastname[TBH]
---Rank.Callsign[TBH] - Possibilities: Elder.Callsign[TBH] , Consul.Callsign[TBH] , Proconsul.Callsign[TBH]

-Character Naming Notes: There should be no such name displaying Rank.Firstname[TBH], such as “Juan_delPueblo[TBH]” nor “Elder.Juan[TBH]”. An example of proper use could be Elder.delPueblo[TBH] or Desconocido[TBH], or Elder.Desconocido[TBH] (for a character named Pablo Perez, rank being Elder and callsign being "Desconocido"). Any and all characters must have a real first name and a last name, even if you only use your callsign in public. This is implemented as a means of fomenting unity in our clan. The leaders of The Brotherhood will spot you the cash if you need it, but focus on adjusting your characters to this naming scheme if they are out of order.

-Engagement Rule: We do not abuse our capital ship fleet. If there are more [TBH] ships available and you perform a military operation on enemy territory, you always have to outnumber the capital ships with fighters. Gunboats should only be used against a superior fighter force. The only exceptions to this Engagement Rule involve special occasions when defending our territory, most notably Crete, where members are free to respond with overwhelming firepower. In those cases though, make sure victory is assured before risking expensive ships in battle.

-Docking Rules: If you are switching between [TBH] ships, always dock on the same place where the new ship is. In RolePlay, shuttles do exist, but shuttle travel takes some time. All pilots are heavily encouraged to give their best to achieve or maintain RolePlay realism at all times.

-Equipment Use: Seek to use Corsair weapons and equipment first. The Corsair People are blessed to have such brilliant engineers and technicians offering cutting-edge technology.
