HDD stopped working - Crackling - 06-21-2015

Today my computer had suddenly turned itself off and after that I saw that one of my HDDs is not recognized by computer... Is there any way to know if it is broken or not? Do not want to go to service center to hear "wire was badly connected" Smile

Unfortunately if you don't have some real experience and you don't know what you're doing, I would advise to let someone that knows take care of it.

This does not sound like a job for a call center at all.

If the data on the machine is of critical significance or is of value to you or your business, DO NOT TURN THE MACHINE ON. Take your computer to a data recovery specialist so they can analyze the data properly and recover it for you.

If you want to try the DIY Google solution, by all means, give it a go. But learn the components of a computer first, learn what you have to remove, identify the hard disk, give it to a data specialist and buy another hard drive to see if you can get your computer running again without sacrificing the data on your potentially unstable drive.

Replace the computer all together if it has to perform a critical roll in your home or business. Even if repaired to operating condition, it can no longer be trusted.

Good luck!

You should try a clean boot, remove the little batter on mainboard for 5-10 seconds and put off every energy source ( PSU cable for 5-10 seconds ). If the HDD's still not recognized you will most likely want to visit your BIOS via F8, DEL or F12 key via startup keep pressing these keys randomly until you get into a blue menu, there you will have to find your drives and see if everything is there ( if one is missing that either means; - the drive is not plugged in properly, - the drive's energy source is not sufficient, - the drive is permanently damaged )

Also you don't necessarily have to vist your bios in order to do this. You can also type "disk management" into the search thingy of windows ( varying which version of windows you currently use ... ) Take a look if all drives are listed and if all of them are marked as "Healthy"

If your drive is listed there you should get known to the CMD command "checkdsk", too much to explain imho. I guess furthermore google is your friend
