Missions - what they are for? - Calo - 03-06-2017

Note: I write it from point of view of a HF/VHF pilot.

Like I noted in a shoutbox, I almost got killed in a mission for 180k which any n00b would pick on after seeing how expensive the equipment is. Like Epo noted - in shoutbox as well - the torps from fighters got removed, giving little to no chance grinding missions. And if you pick the low-tier missions, it is pointless to spend time to earn 31k which isn't enough even to refill a ship (even 300k missions aren't enough for that in most cases). It is not fun to get swarmed by dozens of lvl 19 npcs with unlimited powercore as well, which are able to kill CAU6 Solaris Gunboat - as noticed in SP. Even encounter with other player is way less punishing than that.

Having 1.5 million per 'average' (for snub) missions would be more reasonable, taking into account that sunday traders earn around 14 million per run in 25 minutes via non-ore commodities. Some traders earn double or even triple of that sum shipping ores around.

In my opinion, missions are broken and they give nothing in return.

Yes, missions are broken. Yes, we know.

Unfortunately they're not hugely high on the priority list either. NPCs in general are also a pain to work with, plus we're bleeding system modders left and right.

I normally don't subscribe to this attitude, but this is one of the few times in which I will say "If you want to help, learn. We'd appreciateit."

RE: Missions - what they are for? - Calo - 03-06-2017

What would I need to learn, mind me telling? I could peek up into stuff and think about it, if you'd like.

Edit:
Also, fixing that stuff is pretty easy. You just need to open up the diff2money.ini, do some changed and voila. Script itself basically looks something like this:

Code:
[Diff2Money]
Diff2Money = 0, 10000
Diff2Money = 0.082100, 20000
Diff2Money = 0.112380, 27000
Diff2Money = 0.205130, 39900
Diff2Money = 0.351000, 45400
Diff2Money = 0.480490, 51800
Diff2Money = 0.657740, 60200
Diff2Money = 0.900380, 69800
Diff2Money = 1.232530, 75500
Diff2Money = 1.687200, 85000
Diff2Money = 2.309610, 95300
Diff2Money = 3.161630, 105700
Diff2Money = 4.327960, 143000
Diff2Money = 5.924540, 181400
Diff2Money = 8.110100, 270100
Diff2Money = 11.101920, 500700
Diff2Money = 15.197410, 583500
Diff2Money = 20.803740, 678900
Diff2Money = 28.478239, 775200
Diff2Money = 38.983860, 854700
Diff2Money = 53.365002, 1069600
Diff2Money = 73.051361, 1383800
Diff2Money = 85.051361, 1514600
Diff2Money = 100.000000, 2100300

For clarification: The payment itself doesn't matter. What does matter is the Mission Difficulty.

25 and lower: Absolutely doable.
25 - 30: Very Heavy Fighters/Super Heavy Fighters
30 - 35: Gunboats
35 - 40: Cruisers
40 - 50: Battleships and Cruisers

Missions are nothing more than challenges in the this mod right now, unlike in vanilla, where you did them to quickly get from one rank to the next to start the next campaign mission. Some combinations of ships are quite useful and rewarding, however in fact your best bet is getting a cruiser or battleship and just roflstomp the enemy. With a single Mako, you can easily win a Difficulty 36 mission against cruisers. With a Nomad Adad, you can easily win Zoner Gunboat missions and with a second Adad even cruiser missions, if you figured out the one and only tactic to bring them down. Everything else should play in their own league. You're in a snub? Take snub missions below Rank 25. If you have one or two friends with you, try the next higher ones, but don't expect mercy from the NPCs. Best bet is by the way a bomber with torpedos.

just buy a LEGATE battleship. head to omicron XI , become a GREAT Corsair and Do some missions there. you will have 10 mils per mission with ease. 6 is guaranteed for each. and you will find Battleships only true for doing missions in disco.

The issue is, Heavy Fighter with AU15 should have NO ISSUES AT ALL with lvl 19 million - especially in the middle of House Space. Meanwhile I barely managed to scratch two SHF lvl 19 NPCs that were jittering around like ADHD guy after coffee. True, NPCs don't know how to strafe, but having pretty much same equipment like a player (minus UAU) they can do pretty much damage - especially if there's like four of them, not speaking about dozen of them in 300k mission. Even strafing doesn't help in such a case.

While I know Battleships have it the easiest, I do not think this is a right way - especially when MANY lolwhuts fly caps and it gives wrong impression of battleship = best ship.

Basically, my only issue is that player lose credits doing missions - and with credits, time, while it should be the other way. Giving now lvl 18 mission worth like 1 million wouldn't be much of an issue, since as I already pointed out in 30 minutes you earn around 17 million credits via Serenity. In the same time, player will basically make 10 million credits (if not less).

This advice is amazing. Well clapped, sir.

Should have? I don't know where you come from, but when I face four waves of each times seven Very Heavy Fighters or even better, you can be happy to destroy one or two before you're dry and dead. In fact, those missions are close to combat realism, as you actually aren't able to Tal Ravis the crap out of the enemy, 1vs28.

As for the rewards, remember the NPCs drop stuff as well, especially on higher ranks. With a Junker Gunboat, you can make easy money here.

>snub missions?
>get a gunboat

I think this is when this thread has no more sense right now.
