The Zurich Accord

TAG: AdZ)
ID-IFF: Unione Corse

With instability and disorder being the New Normal of Gallia, a splinter of the Corse saw that they had to adapt: the Famille system is aged and prevents innovation as well as ingenuity to truly bear fruit, along with old alliances being dissolved and thrown into chaos, such as the Police's complete dissolution. If Gallia could make do without a supreme ruler, so can the Corse.

The Zurich Accord is named after a secret meeting in 831 among Corse lobbyists on board the Unioner Devos Base situated in the Valais Cloud of the Zurich system. Making away with what they see as 'factionalism' among the families, the Zurich Accord seeks to keep the best qualities of the Corse and apply them to a broader Sirius, rather than having affairs handled sector by sector by different families.

Though named after the Zurich system, the Accord's grasp reaches into many pies, such as a keen interest in aiding the IMG handling the threat of the Outcast expansions, or to keep a close eye on the powers that be in Gallia: seeking to be influential, yet never at its forefront, with methods such as acting as a neighborhood watch of sorts, while attempting to not impede on the flow of goods and credits in these turbulent times, whether lawful or unlawful. Moving goods is also a priority, and the Corse aren't picky: from weapons trafficking to Nox, encompassing vices such as alcohol, cigar and mobile casinos, to even shipping ore on the cheap for those that need it, there is no job that are truly beneath them as long as it pays.

Violence is but one of the many means to an end, but those that wrong the Accord often find themselves enjoying a long vacation on Marseille, sleeping with the fishes. Just like the families, they hold grudges. Grudges and debts, however, can always be repaid for the right price. Diplomacy is always on the table with the Accord, no matter the hostilities and grudges.

One of the difficulties the Accord has encountered is the inability to bribe officials of other Houses effectively now, and while they are often treated the same as other Gallic private citizen, suspicions are rapidly rising concerning the group as it becomes greater public knowledge that they are the face behind Nox, and must find a way to handle damage control in that regard.

The Zurich Accord in 833 AS/749 AGS

The year 833 AS came with many challenges for the Accord, in particular a race against time concerning the Outcasts' production of Cardamine. While a policy of interdiction of the substance in unison with the Independent Miners' Guild had seen decent results after the Maltese slave revolts, it became clear that the Outcast's production capacities were now back to full capacity. The Corse, unable to face the military might of Malta in a direct conflict, have now began using leverage they have gained in Sirius through the years to compete economically on more equal footing.

The more immediate consequence seems to be a truce between Kusari forces including the Hogosha and the Corse, which leads to a slight thawing of relations in their united front against the Outcast's production. This is a precarious situation and more of a set of circumstances than a true change in politcs, however, as the Corse currently have little to no commercial markets in Kusari. Should they try to export goods, especially Nox, it is quite likely that hostilities will return as they once were.

Libertonian markets have also opened their doors to the Corse, both lawful and unlawful. Though the enigmatic Lane Hackers and zealous Xenos are difficult to negotiate with, the Accord has found itself in a unique position. From shipping Bio-Neural Processors to the Liberty Navy's research stations to securing arms shipment from Detroit munitions, as well as the occasional supply of Nox to the Liberty Rogues, the future for business seems bright there.

Bretonia is a sore issue for the Corse. They are unwelcome there in public eyes, but many seem eager to at least keep cordial business away from the trade lanes. A prime example is Arranmore, currently being blockaded yet is at the center of an economical boom some dub the "Dublin Gold Famine". Accord pilots often find themselves hiring Molly pilots as escorts through Bretonian space as a result, in exchange for supplies.

Rheinland is an unfriendly place for the Corse. Though the Imperial government has no real care for them, the local draconian laws restrict the open business the Corse can conduct there. The Volksrevolution factions such as the Bundschuh, Red Hessians and even the Farmer's Alliance see them as a dangerous foreign criminal influence. Only the Unioners tolerate, if not cooperate, with the Unione Corse on a gentlemen's agreement, the Accord using them as middlemen to help the goods flow into Rheinland and Liberty.

In the border worlds, only the Taus have a signficant Corse presence. Civilian vessels such as the Independent Miners' Guild or even House corporation vessels have little to fear from the Accord unless a specific disagreement occurs, such as over illicit cargo, or contextual circumstances. Junkers rarely receive any pity from the Corse as their arrival in Gallia is seen as a direct threat to the Corsican's authority and business, with the Junker liner in Burgundy often finding itself target of strange accidents or hostilities. Freelancer and unaffiliated pilots such as those of the GMG also often find themselves target of the Accord's more brutish methods, often being asked to hand over their cargo to be left alone for a quick, simple profit.

The latest expansion of the Accord is into the Omicrons thanks to the appearance of an unstable anomaly within the Burgundy system which allows braver pilots to infiltrate and explore the region. If they can make it out of Omicron Alpha safely somehow, they find themselves in more friendly waters once they reach Corsair territories, though still behave carefully around them as no true alliance exists between the two besides a shared hatred of the Outcasts. Artefacts are of interest to import for the Accord, as the Corse's main source of income include tourism, and rich tourists love baubles of all kinds.

Further out, they are aware of the Core but have no interests in dealing with them, lest they ruin their amiable relations with the Corsairs. However, the recent acceptance of the Order as an institution within Gallia has made them reach out to the alien-busting organization in the hopes of commencing what the Accord has dubbed the 'Moo Expeditions', a series of voyages of Vaches and Taureaus into the Order's space to provide them much needed supplies.
