Dual-Core Managing Program - BestFlyerHere - 06-02-2007

I've scoured the Internet, but can't find a dual-core manager for my computer. Like if I want to save power, turn off one of the cores, or I could power down one if it was malfunctioning. Does anyone know of a program like this?

If you have a C2D or in fact any Intel CPU (i think), go into the Bios and Enable Intel Speedstep.

If that doesnt work, go into the power management and rummage around there, it should be there.

Both Intel and AMD have special drivers that allow you to throttle down your CPU when not under load.

Check at intel or amd site, depending on what CPU you have.

Mine, for example, is an AMD Athlon X2 3600 Overclocked from 1.9 to ~2.8Ghz. It runs at 1.4 Ghz all the time until more processing power is required. It then throttles up to 2.8Ghz. Also, core voltaje goes down to 1.1v from 1.35v when in that reduced power mode.

For AMD, once you install the driver, reboot and enter the BIOS. Enable cool and quiet, then under windows, go to power management and set the power profile to minimal battery. That will enable the throttle down.

I have a C2D 5200, so I'll check the Intel website.

Thanks, guys.

If all else fails, you could always just use task manager to set processor affinity to running tasks.

Could you explain how to do this? From what it sounds, you tell Task Manager do dedicate processing power to a certain task?

Rightmark CPU clock/power utility is a program to override OS powersaving settings and provide more control over halt states, throttling and so on to save heat and power. Also provides temp and load display in the system tray. Small and good even though it takes a while to get the hang of. Freeware.

Sweet, thanks, Nadir, I'll check it out.
