I'm in Ireland studying abroad right now and I love everything. Well, except the hot water shuts off after 10'... But hey, small price. The people are nicer, the food is better, the sweets taste better because they're not stuffed full of corn syrup and the crap back home. It's beautiful.
I can't recommend going abroad highly enough; especially Ireland.
i would also look up the rules on getting bar jobs, post office sorting house jobs etc - part-time seasonal work feeds students' beer habits.
i now live and work in singapore - its nice that most people speak (a form of) english, but it can be draining being the 'foreigner'. I recommend that you expand your social circle to include locals; when you want to have a grumble about the other commuter on the train, it's nice when a local agrees with your point. if you restrict yourself to expats only, then your sense of isolation increases when you can only air your legitimate grievance with others in the same situation, rather than someone outside of the circle.
Bulgaria
have only been here once. Stayed in a small town called popovo, and then drove across the border to rumania to catch the flight home. impressions = very poor country
Estonia,
went to talinn for a long weekend. food, average, and fairly expensive
Finland,
food is typical northern european, the beers are really expensive and the women are drop dead gorgeous. universities are excellent. gets bloody dark in winter, so if you suffer from SAD, then avoid.
Ireland
Cold, wet, fantastic beer, friendly people (don't mention religion, politics or football and you'll be fine)
Norway, Sweden, sweden used to 'own' norway (and finland too i think). the universities here are excellent.
Hungary
my impressions are (i went in february) REALLY REALLY REALLY cold, but with excellent transport links. austria is just over there *points*, and the vast majority of peeps spruchen sie teutsch,
Poland and the Czech Republic. Not been, can't comment apart from prague has nice beer, and made me forget most of the trip. Krakow university has a good reputation
Apart from what Coin said, I can't say much more about my country. As I haven't been through uni. (Other than some people say were antisocial, haha)
(And yes Coin, Finland was owned by Sweden a long time ago. Norway wasn't from what I remember.)
And since he seems to think Unis here are fine, can't really argue.
And well.. beers? A bit expensive from what I've heard and seen, I suppose.
