Blindsight is indeed an awesome read. I wandered around for a day or two in a haze after finishing that one.

The Honor Harrington series does a pretty good space opera, but it is a balance between military adventure and politics. Most of the books follow a formula of political buildup that leads to a military conflict.
It is somewhat similar to how I imagine Disco works at the macro level.

As for more sci-fi, I'd give a shot to the Legend of the Galactic Heroes, which translation rolls somewhere around the internet (neither novels nor anime or manga were released outside Japan). Anime is better than these titles being sea of fan-service and moe.
