I've been curious to play a member of the Unione Corse for a while now, and as of recently I have actually rolled a character for the purposes of doing so. I'm not entirely sure how the piracy on their ID interacts with their IC diplomacy, though, considering that most potential targets seem to be people that they either would suffer negatively for pirating (Gallic corporations, miners, house militaries/police, potential smuggling allies) or people that they simply wouldn't want to pirate.
This isn't meant to be a criticism of the ID by any stretch. I just want to understand the faction better, and reading about it on the wiki hasn't cleared things up for me very much. I understand that the UC is not really a majorly antagonistic pirate faction, given that their branch of crime seems to deal more with smuggling, the black market, extortion and the like. I've also been told that the UC functions better as more of a bounty hunting faction, which to me seems to defeat the purpose somewhat of having piracy on the ID at all, but that's why I'm asking for more information, because it feels like I'm missing some major IC information, rather than there being any flaw.
If anyone that knows more about Gallic lore can weigh in on this, I'd really appreciate it. Thank you.
EDIT: Also, I may have posted this in the wrong forum for such a discussion. If so, if a mod could move it to Discovery General Discussion, I would appreciate it.
The Unione Corse is a highly organised quasi-lawful criminal syndicate within Gallia which focuses on smuggling and controlling the black market in Gallia, and Mercenary work for both lawful and unlawful groups. They generally do not attack targets inside Gallia. They are rumored to control the distribution of the Nox narcotic.
Pilot carrying this quasi-lawful ID is a member of the Unione Corse, who:
- Can attack lawfuls, unlawfuls and quasi-lawfuls in self-defense, to protect an allied or neutral lawful ship, or in defense of a base of the same affiliation.
- Can demand cargo and credits from ships within their Zone of Influence but outside of Gallic house space, and attack them if they do not comply.
- Can demand contraband and levy fines, destroying ships that refuse to comply and as specified within house space as specified by house law.
- Can fulfill any bounty and escort contracts.
- Can treat transports as combat targets when executing a bounty or escort contract against them.
- Cannot use any transport with more than 4,300 cargo.
Zone of Influence: Gallia, Gallic Borderworlds, Taus
Allowed ships: Fighters, Freighters, Transports, Gunboats
Piracy for the UC is limited to the Gallic Borderworlds and the Taus, these would offer you good chances at robbing IMG and passing by traffic.
You can also enforce Gallic laws in Gallia.
You are right though, UC is mostly a smuggler faction, dealing with everyone and trying to make the most profit they can.
Yes, I did read the ID. I just also noted on their diplomacy that they're actually three bars positive with IMG and a few other potential piracy targets, which makes those people seem like poor choices to pirate. It just feels strange that piracy is on the ID when it plays a very small role, in the end.
I suppose one could still pirate unaffiliated Freelancers, though. Thank you for posting.
