About the home world ships.
The PLH has been flying a lot of them lately. Swarmer instead of the other "beginer" classes. Raiders freighter,Somtaaw SHF, that sort of thing. They are a joy to fly as they are quick and for the most part carry heaver weapons than the other ships in their class. Bit light on armor for the most part.
Besides thay look rather ....strange. The Somkaaw SHF is lovingly refered to as "The Roach" by my fellow PLH pilots. The swarmer is "The Flea"
They do seem to be at a bit of a disadvantge against the more main line player ships but they have a certain charm. For example, the Raiders freighter does not have the armor of the armoerd transport but is much more agile in the turns. Turret placement allows for a tighter grouping of fire and the energy levels are high enough to run a few of the exotic weapons. All in all they are a great deal of fun to fly. Ths Somkaaw SHF, I must admit, is a bit of a pig. The bloody thing turns slower than my beloved Templer, but boy can it take some punishment. I prefer it to the Rhinland Bomber and as we are about to lose the anti BS weapons it is looking even better as a heavy patrol craft.
Another point, they are not the normal ships used by the "Navys" and as such the fit in very well with the PLH in the role playing mode. We are in direct support of the lads and lasses in uniform even though we no longer wear the uniforms ourselves. The Homeworld ships allow us to stay seperate in look as well as function. We do what the Navy cannot. We go where the Navy should not. We fly what the Navy does not.
