Once a commissioned officer in the First Fleet of the Liberty Navy before defecting to the Separatists, Commander Jack Edison had proudly served the Separatist Navy in sub-divsion SSRT (Separatist Special Response Team) and Battlegroup Harmony in the early years of resistance. He also participated in many campaigns against Liberty Forces within Bering, Texas and New York systems.
On 25th of May, 827 A.S, Commander Edison and his squadron has been listed as KIA. He was last seen launching an offensive operation against a Navy Battlecruiser “Freedom”.
Jack was born on Planet Manhattan and into a military family. He wanted to continue the tradition of his grandfather, who was a retired Navy Captain of the Liberty Cruiser “Constitution”. In his early years, he took part in camps designed to help develop skills to train for a future military career. After finishing High School, he would enlist in several military courses on Planet Erie, focused on fighter pilot training. He attended Valley Forge Flight School’s lessons in 823 A.S and graduated shortly after.
At the age of twenty, Edison enrolled in West Point Academy. Two months later, he earned the cadet rank within second fleet of Liberty Navy and transferred to 108th Fighter Squadron. He would eventually earn his commission to Ensign in after several anti-piracy and anti-smuggling operations in the New York system. In January 825 A.S, Ensign Edison requested a transfer into First Fleet, citing that “it would be a great experience for me to know tricks of the most experienced branch in the Navy”. He would shortly be accepted and then subsequently sent to Battleship Alma in California during the midst of Gallic Royal Navy’s raids into the system.
During his time with 160th Attack Squadron, Jack would repeatedly experience a lack of support from squadmates as well as poor performances from squadron leaders. After a raid, which was saved thanks to him spotting a large group of Gallic raiders, he would be promoted to Lieutenant. Having tasted poor performance in California, he requested transfer to Battleship Mississippi, citing that “constant combat stress took a toll on me”.
On 3rd of March 825 A.S, two days after transfer to Texas system, Jack Edison joined the Fifth Fleet’s counter-insurgency operation. The objective was to capture or destroy Battleship Cherfonak from defecting to the Battlegroup Harmony. What followed was the massacre of Fifth’s Battleship Ohio and subsequent escape of the warship into Bering. Jack would take it the worst as a crew member, escaping through the airlock of the ship, jettisoned directly into his cockpit. Reports say that the person was still alive for thirty more minutes before succumbing to injuries, the fact that hunted the Commander to “this day”.
After the battle, Jack was revoked of flight duty for a short duration as he received counseling. Edison’s service for Liberty Forces itself left him rather exhausted mentally. He had also discovered that Liberty Police Incorporated treats criminals unethically, often overworking them, making him disgusted and obtaining a new perspective on Liberty itself.
The last significant straw occurred during a patrol with Lieutenant Nazawo Ayato in the Bering system. Both pilots encountered and were attacked by a squadron of unknown "Defender"-class ships equipped with what appeared to be Nomad guns. They narrowly escaped the combat back to Texas gate, upon reaching the base, they received a debrief that details of their patrol details were being classified and should not be disclosed. Jack Edison in later days would receive a discharge from the Navy, citing "medical reasons" from the Rank Adjustment Board.
Experiencing such hardships with 5 months, Jack Edison, with the help of former Navy Captain Yann Blackwings, successfully joined the ranks of the Separatist Navy. He stated that "there is something much bigger going on inside Liberty, and I don’t trust my old comrades anymore".
Jack Edison would take a tour of duty following his acceptance into Liberty Separatists. Having successful coordination with the newly formed Separatist Special Response Team (SSRT) made by Navy Defector Amina Rodriges, alongside Captain Yann Blackings, the trio would go on to tactically demolish any Navy raids into the Bering systems, and reportedly proved to be quite a problem for Navy Tacticians.
Edison, in a short order of events, joined the SSRT as a pilot for a recon unit and subsequently was trained for espionage tasks. He cited that “he got the hang of it pretty fast” and was able to contribute heavily in the coming months – one of which was the destruction of the LNS Jack O’Neil. He was able to utilize his old connections in the Navy, thus was able to recover patrol schedules. Harmony Command took notice and Battleship Discovery was deployed to destroy the Fighter Carrier, which was quite successful.
Later down the line, Edison would take part in several operations in Sigma and Omicron sectors during Kusari-Rheinland war.
Following the disappearance of the SSRT Commanding Officer, Amina Rodriges, as well as defection of Yann Blackwings from Separatists Navy’s main branch in later months, Jack Edison would disband the Special Response Team with all of its members being absorbed into the main branch of Battlegroup Harmony. He himself would gain the Lieutenant Commander rank and proceed to take command of SNS Mayport, leading campaigns deep into New York system for several months.
However, as Concord and it’s battlegroup was encroaching on Bering, he was recalled for home defense. He would request a transfer back to the secondary branch of the Separatist Navy to focus on base evacuation. He was able to attain the rank of Commander and built a squadron made up of former pilots from the SSRT Espionage Unit.
Commander Jack Edison would be last seen leading an assault against a Navy battlecruiser as it launched bombers in the direction of Marshall Station. All members of the squadron during that missions has been listed as KIA, no bodies have been ever recovered.
