Hi I know there is an EVE Roster thread, but this isn't about that.
I've recently found out that there's a dedicated part of the EVE community that roleplays, with GM's and the works. I just wondered if anybody here has been part of the EVE RP community and if it is worthwhile getting into?

Yeah I got myself into a good tight corporation, the problem is that they have made a name for themselves, so now I get ambushed in low-sec and generally everywhere I go alone. I die just as often now as I did solo, if not more :/
Reason I asked about the RP was because I was flying around somewhere in Amarr, and I spotted two huge fleets and a bunch of people roleplaying; there were GM's there and they were doing some sort of large event. I generally find the EVE universe rich in setting, but lack deep lore; and I thought maybe players build the lore through their actions, and somebody could give me some pointers/advice on that direction of the game.

I get the feeling that the lore is a bit more... hidden away than compared to Freelancer (where detailed infocards are just one click away). I think you might have to dig through the EVE website a bit to look for stories and the like.
The hardest thing with RP there would probably be the sheer scale of the setting - in a universe that large, where do you start is the hardest question.
I would suggest you might like to ask on the EVE forums for pointers here. There aren't many Disco players who are also EVE player (that I'm aware of / are forum regulars).
Also, tough luck about being ambushed... I guess your corp is caught up in an alliance war, hmm?
(After nearly a year and a half hiatus from playing EVE, I'm back. Still getting my bearings though.)
I've checked out the EVE Roleplay community but unlike discovery, most of the RP is focused ingame. Like..drinking tea and stuff in chats.
Boring. And of course not worth it. Of course, unlike discovery, the stuff you do will have an impact on the game which would be great if everyone roleplayed, but no one really cares, and no one really will care in the future either, except for that small part of the community who no one gives a damn about.
Funny thing happened once, a roleplaying alliance (a small alliance, few hundred I think at most) thought they could build stuff in CFC territory because they had all this unique backstory, roleplay and everything on the forums and they were -certain- they'd be accepted into doing what they wanted.
That particular part of CFC territory belonged to Goons. They just went like "lol yeah ok, kid" and then obliterated the entire alliance in a matter of days, their POSes, mining locations, ships, everything. The alliance broke up after a month.
What we learned? Your RP doesn't matter, just how many guns you have. But then again, I see all corp/alliance interactions as in roleplay. Why, because even though the player's conversations might just be player convos, the actions of the corp/alliances are all quite awesome because there's no friendliness to each other, there is, but only as long as there is profit involved. No one is not going to shoot anyone just to be nice, no.
Hmm ok, so going all-in rp isn't really worth the time and effort, I suppose.
I do see what you mean, I'm in a milita/Faction Warfare corp/alliance, and taking territory is (sort of) roleplay as well, interacting with other militia alliances and corporations to get full coverage in all timezones, and setting up deals with trusted industrialist corps to haul our stuff and produce ships and modules. Even though things aren't done overtly "in character" it sort of is still to some degree.
My corp/alliance have also been wiped out by a Goon blob after an article on themittani.com about a successful campaign of ours (or rather my alliance mates' success, I'm pretty useless); they thought they'd pay us a visit and show us how it's really done
Heh I feel like writing an EVE diary, so much stuff happens everytime I boot up the game. Maybe it's because I'm such a noob and I get easily impressed.
