My God this place is dry. Maybe I'm still spoiled on Gran Canaria. I'll miss that place. It seems Mr. McScrap really does want me around.
I knew so little of this place but in my short ride around the city, I can tell I don't want to stay here for too long nor have Benjen being educated here. I guess the rumors are true about the "undesireables" that live here.
She looks over at her son watching television and smiles.
He deserves better, even if that means I have to educate him myself. It's bad enough his father is gone.
She takes a sip of her wine
Well, tomorrow I'll search for some better, long term housing. For now, some dinner and rest.
After a long day, she lays back in her recliner. Her son asleep for the night, she relaxes with a glass of fine wine, her night gown open in the front to enjoy the air from the air conditioning unit.
I got Benjen into a good school here on Houston. I was pleasantly surprised when you consider the riff raff that tends to live here. He made some new friends already and after a short meeting with the staff, I went and did some exploring.
...and did I mention that they had the nerve to offer me a job as the school nurse? When I showed them my credentials, they apologized!
I found Beaumont base out in the scrap fields. Boy does that place garner some attention. A Junker Marauder and a couple of Liberty Navy ships. I said nothing to them. I then ran some scans of planet Chisos and headed back.
Hopefully I'll get more from Mr. McScrap before too long.
She finishes her wine, turns out the light and heads to sleep.
She again lays back in her recliner after a long day, settling in for the evening with a glass of wine like she so often does.
I'm wondering if this was a mistake. All the fighting over docking rights where I'll be working. Just what I don't want is to be looking for an escape pod during a bombardment! Benjen needs a mother....and I'm all he has. I'll have a hard time explaining this lunacy to him down the road.
She sips her wine and continues.
It was nice chatting with John again today. At least he's concerned with my safety. I try not to lean on him much as he's having issues of his own. Hmph, Midori was so wrong in leaving him. She has no clue as to how good she had it, especially after he stepped down from TAZ. Her loss and some other girl's gain!
I plan on doing some looking around again tomorrow. Getting to know Houston a bit and the Texas system. I've heard that Planet Denver is nice. I should go visit it someday.
With that, she turns out the light and turns on a good movie.
After a day of work, she is again settled in for the night, her loose red night gown and a glass of wine
Some of the Junkers at Beaumont were quite grateful for some good medicine although some of them need to learn some etiquette. Not so much the Junkers I guess but you would have thought that a couple of the Rogues at the bar had never seen a woman before let alone think that a woman could be a doctor.
I did find Tinker's.Haven outside of Houston. I can't dock there yet but at least work won't be far away. My only concern is that it's....open. Not much to stop would-be evil doers there.
Sips her wine
Hopefully, sooner than later, things will pick up. Houston isn't the place to stay bored.
A Quiet Restaurant, Planet Houston, A Table On A Far Wall
She receives a break from a babysitter to enjoy a quiet dinner to herself. Dressed in a white blouse, she sips on some champagne, waiting for her meal to arrive. She makes a log entry on her datapad
I met Flynn finally, in space anyway. He's got a sense of humor and is a very friendly fellow. I helped run a few loads of panels to the Haven for him. She smiles a moment in thought before continuing
He asked about Benjen. That made me feel good. Nice to know someone else besides me has his interest in mind besides me. She looks in the direction of where planet Hamburg would be
Been thinking of home lately. I haven't been there since Daddy got exiled from the Rheinland as did I more or less for trying to help him....but what good daughter wouldn't? I still wonder about Mom and my brother. I hope they're doing OK.
She sat at her desk, Benjen now asleep for the night, updating her medical logs over her glass of wine. A steady day of patients made for a tiring day.
Junkers actually make pretty good patients. They are a stout lot and in good physical shape but like so many stuck on stations, they could use something I am not...a dentist.
She smiles as she continues. I know of one! Perhaps John can get out here and fix some smiles.
Her face goes settled again, Flynn wants to hook up for a dinner but I just don't know where. Be nice to have some male company for a change.
She finished her wine, turned out the light and retired for the evening.
Had a nice chat today with Fynn and William Walker. Looks like I'll be making my first trip to Leeds. Admittedly, I'm a good deal nervous....a little scared even....with the Gallic Royals running things like everyone is subservant to them. Maybe they're just stories and I'm overreacting.
She gets up and walks over to the doorway where her son is sleeping inside. She makes sure that he's tucked in for the night with the smile only a mother can give before going back to her desk
Benjen...he's all alone if something should happen to me. He was why I gave up cigarettes. His father.....dead and my family now in exile in Omicron 74. Not sure what I'm going to do as I have no one I trust to stay with him.
She turns off the light and retires for the evening
I guess this hasn't been a bad gig thus far. It seems the patients come to me. It's enabled me to unexpectedly be able to go back to Houston to be with Benny but he seems to enjoy coming on station to hang with Mom and even learn something. He can already apply a pretty good field bandage.
It seems I have been given a leader's roll here as Mr. Walker had to leave, leaving me his position. I'm no diplomat, just a country girl from Hamburg and a physician...
She looks at a picture of her and Benjen together
...and a Mom, my favorite job!
Fynn has been so sweet. He makes sure I get what I need, quite often without asking. I enjoy our relationship.
Ortog? I'd still like to know how he knows I like Gallic White Wine. Still, it was a nice surprise. He's a total gentleman, something that seems to be a forgotten art in these times of hostility.
She sighs
I can't be certain but I think he likes me......in that way.
