Writing this after watching all the songs on tele, I gotta say there were some amazing acts there this year (and no bearded guys in dresses). I wonder what your favourites are, I personally didn't like what Poland put out but apparently it's been doing really well in the pre-votings.
I really liked this years performance. Timberlake's interval act precisely showed what Eurovision isn't. It's not just a loose collection of contemporary pop songs that are completely irrelevant. Of course some of them are, but most are just really good works of art.
Congratulations, on being able to watch Eurovision at TV! Our country was excluded this year because our local TV company did not pay EBU broadcasting taxes for quite some years. So no participation this year for us and not even allowed to broadcast the show. (Romania)
Also, thank you for your info, good to know that this show is the same joke like it has been for the last 10 years. I didn't miss much. Having Australia in a show which is called EUROvision is a huge joke. Don't even want to remember about political votes either.

Because apparently Eurovision is very popular there and they have a lot of fans which is why they're allowed to participate. Don't worry though, if they win the next Eurovision it won't be held in Australia.
Australia was admitted into Eurovision because of their cultural ties to Europe and because it's a part of the European Broadcasters Union, similarly to Azerbaijan and Israel. If they had won, the contest wouldn't have been held in Australia, they would have been required to host it somewhere in Europe because of timezone difference.
Now, as for the voting results, I'm genuinely surprised that Poland got the second-to-last place from the jury and third place from the public, that was absolutely amazing. Even though I didn't like Szpak's performance, I like that we got Top 10 (8th).
The winning song was Ukraine's 1944 - I personally don't consider it great, however it did cover a very difficult topic and this might have been the reason it was picked over other ones, mostly relating to love, friendship and unity. Oh well. Gg to them.
The second place went to Australia. Sound of Silence was the bomb, it was my second pick after Lazarev's song and I gotta say it was good. I really liked the presentation and the music video that was released before. It's interesting, because Ukraine just ran off with the win getting the second place from the public and thus first overall.
I'm surprised that Lazarev's (Russia) You Are The Only One didn't get first place. The presentation was absolutely bonkers, the angel wings and the iceberg jumping was absolutely incredible. The song was also incredibly amazing, his vocals were perfect and he fortunately avoided what a lot of Slavic singers did - not pronouncing the word endings (*cough* Donny Montell *cough).
I'm sad Austria didn't make Top 10. Zoë's song was incredibly cool and I liked that it wasn't in English - it's refreshing to hear some French as well. And it's weird that I liked her French song more than Amir's one more. But oh well.
It was a fun watch overall. Would reccommend to a friend.
