i can t help but feel a bit saddened by the thought that ppl now record all their battles "just in case". - such a waste of fun and resources.
usually - it should suffice when two or three people second an event described.
edit: i once recorded a pvp ( more by accident, cause i hit the record button ) - and it turned out to be a video of some 45 GB size - i shudder to think of uploading such a video anywhere...

You have to convert the AVI video to another format. And the video you took must have been like 90 minutes long, hehe.
It's not a waste of fun... sometimes i just want to show my bro or friend the crazy stuff that happend when they wern't there, so I might record some stuff. Not only "just in case".
I think a dedicated place for Discovery's "Greatest Hits" would be very entertaining:)and would provide endless material for people making little trailers or fan-films.
I've used Fraps to record some things in the past. All you do is edit it with something like Movie Maker and boom, your video is down from to just a few MB. They can look fantastic, too - let you see what you've done wrong (or right).

Because of the processor load of compression apparently - it's saved as more or less uncompressed video. If some company came out with a 'USB Fraps Compressor' gadget (similar to the "iPod compression accelerator" gadgets for converting video to iPod format quicker) then they would make a killing.
No longer active online due to a dwindling amount of non-PvP (trading, pirating, mining, etc.) fun in the new version.
