Project Head:Commander Alex Assigned Divisions:Military Wing | Research Wing Assigned Operatives: Commander Alex, Director Taylor Operation Priority:Critical
Synopsis:
Operation Shattered Skies entails the launch of an expedition task force into the inner core of the derelict Nomad city within Planet Knossos' upper atmosphere. The goal of this operation is to extract as much information about Nomad technology, biology, and society as possible. Heavy machinery may be required to breach into the inner depths of the installation, funds for the operation have been cleared and set aside.
Available Assets:
Every asset the Omicron Research Group still has to spare.
Required Assistance: Mining Equipment & Heavy Machinery - To be determined. Military Escorts & Combat personell - To be determined.
Execution: Phase 1 - The first stage of this operation entails the assembly of a strike force capable of defending Research Wing assets during the span of the expedition. Furthermore, mining equipment as well as other heavy machinery must be acquired to enable access to the inner parts of the installation. Lastly, a task force will be assembled to carry out the actual expedition. A team made up of scientists specialized in a variety of fields will be necessary, as well as a team of Marines to protect the expedition ground forces.
Phase 2 - Once a team has been established, all participating forces are to assemble at the Thoth Edgeworld Institute for a briefing. The planning of further stages may need to be carried out for once the breaching of the installation has been successful.
Phase 3 - An armed convoy will transport the expedition force, together with the required equipment, into the Omicron XI system and set up a security cordon for the time of the expedition. While Phase 3 entails the expedition itself, due to a lack of information on the interior of the installation, the actual process will need to be improvised by the expeditionary force.
Phase 4 - Phase 4 entails the retrieval of specimens and materials extracted from the city. Military Wing assets together with the rest of the convoy will need to provide a safe passage back to Omicron Mu for the research corps. Once all assets have been secured, a thorough analysis of all samples and data taken from the installation may commence immediately.
The following recon-report will be added to the Operation report for ease of access to all parties.
Recon Op: A-02 Operative: Special Operative, Michael Cantrell
Playing video log…
"This is Recon Operative Cantrell reporting in from Omicron Epsilon." The pilot, who is still firmly seated within the cockpit of his Dagger recon-fighter, salutes. His posture, however, makes it quite evident that he had been at the end of an increasingly exhausting flight. "I have just finished my assigned recon route through Omicron Xi and Planet Knossos' atmosphere. For the sake of proper protocol, I may be restating information already known to High Command and participating parties. According to navigational data gathered during the operation." With a simple button press, a simplified holographic depiction of the navigational data gathered from Knossos would be displayed. "As you can see, the system has two entry points: One would be by going directly through the planet's atmosphere in Omicron Xi, the other being a damaged Nomad gate further behind the derelict site when moving in from the primary entry point. While I understand that it was against protocol to move through a gate not listed in our database, it did send me straight to our backyard. Right into Omicron Beta."
"The main structure in the center of the system is surrounded by a dense debris field. Some of our capital ships might have problems navigating in there. The Horizon might squeeze through, but it will most likely pose a serious navigational hazard for the Altair. So my personal recommendation would be to have the entry team inserted via the Horizon. The structure is also surrounded by what appears to be a group of weapon platforms, all of them have been inactive, and it seems like they've been that way for a long time. There were other structures, but I have not been able to identify them. The interference of the storm also messed with the scanners, so I was unable to get anything conclusive, sorry sir."
…video log ends.
The relevant part of the log ends there, the remainder has been cut. As per navigational data gathered and Operative Cantrell's recommendation, the Altair has been deemed as unfit for this operation. Battleship Horizon will be fitted with boarding equipment to act as a staging ground for the expeditionary force until further notice. ORG assets are requested to steer clear of Omicron XI, further Recon ops launched into Planet Knossos will be conducted through the Gate in Omicron Beta.
