Can you give us any more information regarding the computer itself? What operating system are you using and such?
Also is this the only game that causes crashes? Have you been suffering from bad performance elsewhere?
It sounds like from here that there are more underlying problems with the computer itself. Its rare from my experience that games crash a computer on startup.

Thanks for answering,
Well, my pc is old, some hard drives may be too old.
It's a 2.4 Ghz, 1 Go RAM with XP pack2.
I don't use any other game, all my other applications work until now.
No, I don't think a virus could do that.
Try reinstalling the Discovery mod, and if it doesn't work, reinstall Freelancer as a whole.
Check for driver updates, they might fix it if you're hardware is outdated.
I had this problem when my power source was giving it's last breath, try opening Google and look on the monitor for any sort of distortions, like some moving horizontal lines on the screen.
Either way, download and install HWMonitor, and check the numbers on the temperatures and the voltage. I honestly suspect the 3.3V. If it's anywhere lower than 3.0V, then you have to switch to another power source, or change the Motherboard(will require OS reinstall)
