Alright I don't know whether to put this in here or the media centre so mods/admins just move it accordingly if necessary but anyway...
Anyone got any recommendations for decent apps/games etc to download? Preferably for tablets (I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2) but not many apps are tablet optimised so that's no biggy.
Games wise there's obviously Angry Birds, Temple Run and all that jazz but if there's any that any of you play or use that's decent then post away. I have loads but anything to kill half hour or so or to just mess around with would be awesome.
Oo depends on your needs, mate.
I use:
feedly (news)
vk (i think you won't need this)
chrome
minimalistic text
falcon pro (twitter)
quickpic
aquamail
and, well, gta vice city

By the way, you should root it. That is if you're interested in techy stuff. Rooting your android, and installing a custom rom, you can remove all the bloatware, and speed up your device A LOT
(This can void your warranty though, but with most devices, you can reflash stock and there's no way to tell, unless you have a Galaxy S3 or Note 2)
Here's the forum for the Galaxy Tab 2, you can see suggested apps and stuff as well if you browse out of that subform. http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1600
I have a Galaxy Nexus running an AOSP rom (Android Open Source Project) install, essentially.
I can do whatever I want. I even installed Ubuntu Phone's test OS as a test.
Games:
4 Pics 1 Word
Hill Climb Racing
Temple Run 2
Temple Run Oz
Doodle Jump
Beat Hazard
Plants vs Zombies
Dungeon Defenders
#sworcery
Contre Jour
Solar 2
Super Hexagon
Nightsky HD
Apps:
Skype
Pinger
Snapchat
Google Translate
Gmail
Play Music
Navfree Free Satnav
Youtube
For my rooted phone:
I have an adblocker which blocks ads on website, and apps (Free apps have no ads)
Called, AdAway
And GooManager, ROM Toolbox, LagFix Free, Clean Master, BusyBox
Also, for flash player access if your device cannot support it. Use the Stock browser (better than Chrome speed wise)
and install this .apk http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flash...er_ics.apk
You'll need to allow unknown sources in the security section of your settings.
Opera Mobile
Opera Mini (if you want to greatly reduce the usage of connectivity)
Astro
Barnacle Wifi (needs root access)
TubeMate (not available on Android Market/Google Play)
Advanced Task Manager
AutoKiller Memory Optimizer
PowerAMP (possibly the best music player you will find for Android)
MX Video Player
TeamViewer (if not too useful, was at least funny to prank my family with it )
uTorrent
Games:
Nesoid (if you like playing old NES games.also not available on Market)
4 Player Reactor
Atomic Bomber
Robo Defense
Raging Thunder 2
Pacific Navy Fighter
Paris Must Be Destroyed
And yeah,I recommend rooting your device. I unlocked a lot of options on my SE Xperia X8,like deleting some useless preinstalled apps (Facebook) which wasted my internal memory space. That reminds me I have to get myself a custom rom...no possibility to install apps on SD card is a real pain with Android 2.1
Wow, didn't expect such a big list from people! Thanks I'll be trying some of these out at some point, probably on Sunday and the days to come (little bit busy)
Beau, i'll speak to you on skype about dev stuff. I'm good with IT but not mobile based applications...it's good to see expertise such as yours around. I'm running Android 4.1.1 on the tablet (10" screen) so I don't know about compatibility issues with some stuff but the feedback's been awesome.
Is it essential to root it? My old G1 was rooted with Cyanogen (was on Android 2.2) but that was a piece of junk so I don't think that made much difference anyway.
Rooting of course is not essential. And the reason why your G1 (mail it to me, I want it) was so laggy because the specifications were too low for Froyo (2.2.x).
Rooting can give you new features, remove bloat, and the option to run AOSP ROMs. For example, you can run Android 4.2.2 before Samsung releases an update.
It is not as difficult as it used to be since the G1 era. Anyone can develop a rather bug less ROM
