i try to stick to a width max of 500 and height from 150-300 depending on whats needed, what you got to think about is people with screen res of 800x600, to fit the forum sides in and the pages readable, 500 width max is best
I myself can't see why that would be an issue, as it is already common practice on many other forums with somewhat more stringent signature rules than we do. What I don't understand, however, is why; spoilers tags in signatures are usually utilized because of restrictions on signature sizes, but the 700px * 250px signatures that the Discovery forums allow us to use is already really quite a lot for a signature. As Evanz said earlier, that's already more than enough for it to start being an issue for people with small screens/windows or mobile users, so I'm not sure why you'd want more than that; large images and walls of text doesn't normally seem like good signature material to me, at least.
PS: This should probably be moved to the Site & Board Feedback subforum if a member of the moderation team stumbles upon this.
To me it looks like no picture inside spoilers regardless of image size streches the forum when the spoiler is hidden/closed. Should be all fine with of course a warning of "Open at your own risk!". I don't really see an issue with this, nor see the point in asking why he wants what he wants at all... is that even relevant?
As I said, I'm fine with it, but seeing as there's no official statement on whether it's alright or not yet I presented an argument for why it may not be such a good idea to allow them. It's indeed not an answer to his question, but nobody but a member of the moderation or administration team can provide that anyhow, so I thought I'd put that out there for consideration in the meantime.
As for asking why: I was just curious as to why one would want a huge image like the one you posted in a signature, that's all.
The thing is that spoilers, when closed, are dynamic enough to fit the forum theme no matter what screen resolution you use, and they load closed, can be opened and closed any time, they basically do not break any forum rules. Everybody can check it themselves by checking the test I did in my previous post in this thread.
