Hello - original CR| faction lead here, and old member of =CR=
The real problem is not Barrier - its Coronado.
Back in the day, a big part of my "behind-the-scenes" RP plans was finding a new place for CR as an NPC faction to settle. We had RP plans and old relationship with Hellfire to move in to Vespucci - talking with devs with the idea of taking some systems from Gallia (languedoc), and generally making overtures of the idea of taking Curacao (Cortez)
None of these were ever going to come to fruition.
Dev assumption is twofold: One, more systems need to share RP, as opposed to systems with singular purpose (example: Tau44, the old CR system, which only had one faction in it) - however, with Council getting a system mostly to themselves, that logic falls apart.
...And Two: that Coronado is at all beneficial to anyone who lives there. Coronado has two planets, which are, in infocards, described as treasure trove worlds. Notably Pecos (with more Deuterium than Gran Canaria), and Yuma (which is basically earth). However, both of these planets have massive issues that make them worthless. Pecos is owned by the IMG, which should be a surprise to everyone, and are not at all interested in letting their Deuterium fortune go to waste - early RP drafts of CR being on Pecos was as a slave labor force for the IMG - this of course got worked out, and its settled into a "CR pays for the right to mine Deuterium" and use it as an RP bargaining chip with their alliances with Liberty and Bretonia. But, at the end of the day, it is still IMG's planet, and they don't use the Deuterium for anything.
And then there is Yuma - what is supposed to be the CR "Homeworld" - by RP and Infocards, the hostile plant life makes it impossible to settle - the idea behind this is to cooperate with many different factions to represent a colonisation effort (planetform, IMG, etc) - in reality, the infocards existed for far longer, back when it was a world DSE was surveying for possible settlement (that is until, in the story, IMG disguised as Pirates killed them all).
And the real crux of the issue - that everyone in Coronado HATES IMG and CR. IMG tried to set laws on the place, and became the enemy of just about every group that calls Coronado home...
While this all old, and the RP is all old, the initial problem still remains.
That being, CR| is now living in a system full of people who hate them - right next to a base that is a haven for pirates, cardi smugglers, slavers, mercenaries, and any unlawfuls (notably outcasts) who want to dock there. CR| has no power to project authority since Barrier provides an open haven for all of its enemies. All the while CR is supposed to be fighting Gallia, which is a warfront far away.
But, this is all academic. Dev's are in no way interested in changing this, as its by design. As well, CR| official is banking on a relationship with Bretonia and Liberty, despite not understanding that neither relationship is in CR's benefit, and will likely be forgotten the moment the need is gone.
But, by storyline, the Gallic war might go on forever (lib\rhein), and the dev's might decide to throw CR on the chopping block like they've already done once - and considering Tau44 is getting removed, there is no way for CR to regain what it has lost.
Yeah I do feel bad for CR due to some BS choices made for them however I do not think Barrier Gate needs to be moved. Honestly feel like CR having a system in the Taus made more sense inRP sucks that got changed.
Okay well if people do not agree on moving Barrier Gate south by maybe 10-15k then why not move the jumpholes so it is further for smugglers and pirates to dock on the base when carrying illegal goods, because it is no fun trying to catch a Cardamine smuggler coming from the Tau's when we cannot engage him within Baffin, he will dock on Barrier Gate in Coronado and in Cortez he wont get there until we are logged out. That is how things are in this mod and update, and it is annoying.
Me and a few other CR members have come up with a good RP and Story for CR which is still in the process of being written which should hopefully help us out, but with everyone docking as soon as they see us on there scanners it ruins RP.
Quote:I suppose you could move CR into Gran Canaria... That would retask the star system, and put CR into a better/invidious position.
You could even come up with Lore for them coming in and taking over the Reapers facilities after a biological disaster (it is flu season).
This could work, but from what I know.
CR owned and called Tau 44 home until the Gallic Royalists decided to go on a full rampage through the tau's into Bretonian space, taking over Tau 44 even though it is home to CR.
Coronado I would say is a good location for us for the moment, as we have a shipyard there, Planet Yuma with the RP behind it already, Planet Pecos too. It is just the fact every time we try to interact with other PLAYERS within Coronado who are smuggling, they just decide to dock on Barrier gate so they don't loose there cargo, as it is within 15k of either jumphole. Cortez and Baffin.
Soon as these pilots dock they will pm us laughing at us and in our faces and it is childish and it is stupid and makes me angry considering this is a RP faction. Most the time if you give good enough RP the people stopping you iwll let you be with the cargo you are hauling even if it is illegal, I have seen it happy more than once.
So why can't it be the case here, because people are SCAREd, LAZY and try to be TROLLISH. Please just either move Barrier Gate south and the Alien Gate North or move Baffin and Cortez Jumpholes further away from Barriergate to make it around 25k to 30k away from Barrier Gate.

Old Lore, =CR= was a military nation funded almost entirely by the industrial complex of the IMG - they basically formed two sides of One House - IMG operating as the "trade\economic" portion, and the =CR= operating as the military. So much so, that even though =CR= had a mining bonus on there ID, they never used it - and even though they had ISE, it was never relevant.
In the Tau's, =CR= operated amidst a host of different factions within that area - folks like the ICMG, EDGE, the various flavors of the Outcasts, Hogosha and Kempeitai, BMM and Bretonia Privateers, and the early Gallic factions - notably the Brigands, Council, Unione Corse, and the GRN whenever it wanted to do something.
In the rp shift, IMG was forced to play nice with Gallia (IMG leadership was very much against it, but the story did not allow for any other option) - the ICMG could not exist anymore - the Outcasts lost their heart (Doc Jameson), and Gallia became the only thing of interest in the area - however, the Brigand faction died, Unione Corse went through growing pains, Council got their own system, and the IDF\GMS didn't get enough reason to operate outside of gallic systems.
With GRN having a backdoor into Bretonia through Orkney and into the Gaian systems, they can completely avoid the Taus, a place where they would be very vulnerable (valors beached on asteroids)

Gran Canaria is dying. The planet is going through its winter phase, and will be unable to support life very soon.
And even if it wasn't, moving CR to that far south would do two things - incite hostile relations with two factions that CR has little to no diplomacy with - Mollys and Corsairs - by old diplo, Mollys are neutral\NAP so that CR can trade in Bretonia without being targeted - CR| had to do a lot of smuggling to bring that about - notably CR| helped build Goldern Coin.
CR| has no relations with Corsairs, and not looking to form any - as well, it will tie CR at the hip with Bretonia, and cause issues with Zoners (and the SCRA)
I'm new here but I can see that been moved to Coronado only by Devs decision left deep scars in the CR. When a colonial think on what can be done there is the question if it would matter if the Devs chose to move us again. Or why we keep fighting in the Taus if we will never take back Tau-44, and even if we do it would bring even more inRP problems because we can't control two systems so apart. Move the CR again just like that will only bring more problems.
For the record, I don't want to complain about that change. It was done long before I even knew about Disco and is too easy to criticize it when everyone who is fighting Galia wants someone who cause trouble in the Taus.
This user talks little to none english. If you find something wrong tell him.

As a little piece of trivia, old CR| HC once entertained the idea of switching sides to Gallia, once it became clear dev's were removing Tau44. We also toyed around with the idea of a cease-fire with Outcasts, although that was to nullify the Reavers and Mando's (the Mando situation worked itself out)
