Like if it stops by the first waypoint, it'll cruise again and go to towards the second waypoint.
What I assume @Snake means is that you can set waypints in space and the autopilot will follow them all.
NOT that the autopilot will cruise/dock with trade lanes and jump gates.
So really, there is no valid "afk trades" argument here.
(Instead ofc OP meant docking with trade lanes. In that case whoops.)

Making a waypoint that you set visible for other players in group.
This. I'd love this. Would make rendezvous points and the like so much easier when with a group coming from various directions.
As for the original suggestion. Nah don't really see the point. The AFK use wouldn't be the issue if it had other advantages, but it doesn't. It really only serves AFK use. If you're not AFK you can just press the go to button and that's all, no big deal.

But as you know you can set paths from one way point to another and pretty much follo wit like that however. The Autopilot doesn't realy follow that guide, at all. Only the first waypoint and then it stops.

What's the problem with an autopilot able to move trough multiple waypoints? You can just as easly make one waypoint and cross the system while afk. That throws the "afk traders" out of the window. I don't really see an issue here.
The fact that you can maneuver around better if you had multiple waypoints than if you had one. I could do an example where I decided to start from Atka Research Station in Sigma-17 and decide to make a waypoint to just the Omicron Theta. It would cause the autopilot to go right near the sun to force the autoplilot to uncruise. So, you lose yourself 20 seconds of turning and tossing around on autopilot.
BUT what if I decided to make another waypoint just slightly further away from the sun and to the Omicron Theta jumphole. I don't lose my cruising speed and don't waste time attempting to cruise again and turn away from the sun. You do that multiple times and you increase your profit margin greatly for the afk traders.
Here's another example. I wanted to go from Sigma-19 jumphole to Munich jumphole. But if I just F2 straightly. I will encounter Lagos Depot and suffer hull damage and a waste of credits.
For an extra click to make another waypoint go around it, I don't have to spend anymore credits for repairs!
Here's a little more. I am smuggler. I am baddie in Rheinland. What do if police decide to catch me for contraband while I'm alt-tabbed? Whoops, You have died.
Oh wait, I could have prevented that by doing an alternative route?
And here's the worst ultimate example. I want to find a secret POB in New London, what do?
You loose the point. It's just meant for inside the system.
It's not like you can set Waypoints from New London into Gallia and the ship will just Autopilot everything. If you go AFK while this, your ship will basicly just stop at the next system until you set waypoints again, so you have to set waypoints on all systems you jumped in once again. I don't realy see a problem in that, realy, what don't you people understand?
(08-10-2015, 09:24 PM)Adam_Spire Wrote: And with trade lane disruptions from an NPC or player, do you really, really, want your trader on auto pilot?
It's a disadvantage, see? But for those alternate routes to avoid the sun and all like priest mentioned, it's just in one system. You realy wont loose sight in that as you have to set the waypoints again once you jump into another system. It would just serve as an easier tool inside systems heading to another Jumphole.
Like you said, NPCs could disuprt you, players could disrupt you, I don't realy see an abuse in that, more like a Risky choice if you do that.
@Techpriest Dude... You do know that on each waypoint the ship basicly stops and cruises again right? That's how it's supposed to work, but it doesn't.
@DragonRider nope I didn't mean dock on trade lanes and stations, all I meant was continue "Go-to" after next Waypoint, it's as if you press "Go-to" again, but automaticly.
