's why we have a heavily armored capital ship thruster. Use that if you're in fear going without a thruster. The advanced and cheetah one get blown off fairly easily. By design.

Indeed I know and I use it it is ok- I talk from experience here - but only few GBs like the corsair one are forced to do so, the others have advantage in turret steering because they mount cheetah and can use thruster on significantly more time. This is the design flaw- I really like the concept with thrusters- if you want to thrust more you must risk not to thrust at all.
Most of the transports and gbs cannot loose their thruster because the hard point is integrated in the Model. Shield? I guess all are integrated in the model too- for all vessels.
Same story with chopping off train turrets- the train take more dmg then the turret- the turret have only 20k strength- Train almost die before chopping single one- only the back one is easy to remove. Compare it with Tanker for example- tanker turrets and stuff are really easy to remove.
I am saying that thrusters and turrets should be easy to remove on all ships. Sorry for highjacking the topic- my first intention is to help fighting corsair gb giving tip.

All that uou need to know: learn how you can fight with different enemy. As my experience showed, Gunships with cerberus is bad for me to fight, and agile bombers is hard too, but kill a salvager, transport, OC GB or slow snubs is not so hard.
So pick opponent carefully, you cant be good vs anyone. Turret steering helps as well. And remember that every ship has weaknesses
I agree with him here. Since I`m usually a target of an Imperator I must admit that it gives you hell if it`s well flewn.
The times where 3 Fighters easily could kill a gunboat are over. Even two bombers will have a hard time against it.
.86 seems more and more to be the age of the gunboats.
And to the original question, everyone knows that every faction has some ships which are slightly better than ships of the opponent faction, but they have their weaknesses too.
An Imperator is beatable with two bombers since it is pretty big, a Heimdall for example will have it easier against two bombers since it`s way smaller, but it will die in a GB vs GB combat.
I think GBs are balanced pretty well, just think of them in two split classes: Heavy gunboat and light gunship.
Myea, you can use a cheetah thruster on a gunboat...
... until someone learns to subtarget hardpoints and feed the hardpoint itself a torpedo. One, maybe two nova torps (or one well-aimed SNAC, but that's a hard shot to make), and a Cheetah thruster is gone.

Same for enhanced thruster. Bomber pirates always blow my thruster first, only takes 1-2 hits

Well that's my point. They are treated as if they are all the same class, but the heavies are in a different class on a practical basis. If your advice for fightin them comes down to "use ships from another class" then something is wrong. Limiting their arcs so they can only fire 6 in any direction is a possible fix--they would still be stronger than the other ships in their class, but you'd now be able to fight them with other ships that are supposedly in the same class.

Cruisers and destroyers would have the same problem then. If you want to nerf the heavy GBs then you`d have to nerf heavy cruisers too to keep the balance.
I think it really is fine as it is, I don`t see a problem that some factions might have an advantage with some ship classes, each faction has their weaker shipclasses too.
I really doubt heavy gunboats need a nerf..
They indeed do have quite a firepower with 8 turrets and when seeing how Order and Corsair turrets are good.
However these heavy gunboats are very slow and large, therefore easy to snac.. Did you ever try fighting in hathor against skilled bomber? You'll have some hard time dodging snacs.
They don't need a nerf haha. I can kill an Imperator/Hathor/KuEx (of equal skill to me) with a Bottlenose or Liberty GB without ever losing my shields.
I'd link the tutorial videos I give my members but I think it'd just start QQ about how Heavy GB's are underpowered
For the record Ursis, the Liberty GB can fire 7 turrets at once if you get to know the ship;)
