You have some kind of bad install issue then. It may be due to antivirus software, but I recommend you do a fresh install following all of the instructions here to the letter. http://www.neo-terra.net/forums/index.ph....msg50#new
Also, you should bring your problems to that thread so we can keep this one clean.
I had a similar issue getting NT to work - that is, the instant-kick-on-connection issue, and what fixed it was completely disabling Avast during the installation (not just responding to the prompts that kept coming up, just turning the damn thing off for 10 minutes) and running EVERYTHING (i.e. both the preinstaller and the launcher itself) as an administrator via right-click, even though Alley assured me that they would run in admin mode automatically (they really don't).
Combining that with the thread Justin linked, as well as a bit of mucking around with settings and the like, should (hopefully?) fix things.
Tried it out for a bit last night. Being a beta, it's a bit rough around the edges (as is to be expected) but the features already operational are pretty interesting. I'd recommend everyone to at least check it out.
After a relatively long break from Discovery and Freelancer in general (writing a diploma paper takes too much time) I decided to give this mod a try. If I were to sum the impressions up in a sentence, I'd say: "Sometimes it feels a bit outlandish, but it is fresh and quite impressive". I like the frontier feeling of the Procyon sector, I like the new music, dynamic asteroids and the fact that the universe is compact yet rich at the same time.
I also like the ships (especially Dominion fighters, which are totally my favourites, even despite the fact that I'd probably be opposed to Dominion ideology) and the weapons (Gauss and beam weapons in particular). The combat mechanic is somewhat different (mainly due to changes in thruster system), but it means that everyone has something to learn.
Now, since it is a beta release, there're occasional bugs, and some things haven't been finished yet. Personally, I'd like to see more lore (which, as I have been told, will be added soon enough). But to sum it all up, the mod looks promising.
P.S. Someone has mentioned Chasm already. But I'll mention it again. If you decide to give the mod a try, make sure to check out that system. To make your trip through Chasm even more emotional get yourself a battlecruiser and remember to stick to the buoys. After that check the planet atmospheres. Some of them look simply fantastic.
