Hi !
For some hours, I'm having issues logging in with my version of Skype.
I have tried other older versions and it seems Skype has deactivated all other old versions.
All of them are giving me the message: "Skype logged you out because you're using an outdated version"
So, I might not be able to log in anymore because I am using Win XP SP 2.
To those out there who have me on skype be warned, I will no longer be able to reach you.
If anyone has a solution to this I am listening.
Yes, it's not working on my windows and my hardware doesn't support an upgrade sadly. So, untill I get money to upgrade my pc I can't do anything.
I have also searched through their forums and it seems there are many others who are using the same version I was using till now or even newer or older versions which are no longer working.
They've announced this: http://blogs.skype.com/2014/06/20/making...n-desktop/
""As we look ahead to the future, we‘re focusing our efforts on bringing the latest and greatest to the most recent versions of Skype. As a result, we are going to retire older versions of Skype for Windows desktop (6.13 and below) as well as Skype for Mac (6.14 and below) over the next few months.""
You could try find an offline installer version (The full EXE, not just the Internet based installer) and run the setup EXE in Compatibility mode for XP. Found this has worked wonders for software issues related to aging hardware and operating systems - Been there, done that. It ain't fun.
As good as XP is, it's being left behind i'm afraid. Though maybe that'll work for you - I use Windows 7, though another PC running in the house had this problem. That seemed to do the trick considering it's an XP Home Edition which goes as far as XP SP2. -
Same problem here, seems like Microsoft has finally stopped my old v4.2.0.187 installs from logging in at all. It stopped working on my laptop overnight, and my desktop install is probably only working due to me not having logged on and off yet.
I haven't found a fix online, unfortunately, and tinkering around with the shared.xml config file hasn't yielded any interesting results yet; it gets overwritten every time I log in, so I can't remove the "<UpgradeHints>0/4.2.*.*,38</UpgradeHints>" line which is presumably causing the problem.
Microsoft updated the Skype, now it requires a file which is only available in SP3 and newer. So I suggest you to upgrade your windows or to download an older version and install it offline.
I had the same problem. After updating skype the .exe would crash (kernell32.dll not found). Updating to SP3 is the only fix for this issue. My skype is working fine after I installed SP3.
