I find anime is like any other media. There's good anime, and there's crap. I'd say the same thing about television, Hollywood, music, computer games, etc. I see no reason to single out anime as a whole.

I dont like how anime is overdone, or overexagerated.
Western magic: Snap your fingers and hurl a fireball the size of a mac truck at your enemy, boom, done, simple as that.
Eastern magic: Spend 25 of the 30 minutes of your tv time sounding like you're constipated and grunting to flashy, epileptic backgrounds so you can fling a fireball the size of a grape at someone.
Overdone.
Western Weaponry: Reasonably sized but elegantly crafted greatsword, woven with some cool glowing runes.
Eastern Weaponry: Somehow fight with 9 swords at once by holding them between your armpits and teeth.
Some people consider Avatar: The Last Airbender anime, but I can't since it's such a deviation in artistic style and lacks both oversized eyes and awkwardly pulsing forehead veins. As such, my love of Avatar is not in conflict with my hatred of anime.

I for one do not like anime. Not the stories but the animation part of it. I find it "wooden", the animation sequence quite
repetitive ,devoid of variation of subtle movements.
The Characters in anime across the board all look similar. Its like "de ja vu" all the time.
