What follows is a summary of me before I actually get to my questions...warning it is LONG...I want to mention everything now before getting specifics, and so I piss the fewest people off trying to explain it later.
Sup! I remember playing Freelancer on my very first desktop way back in the day (god we've come so far) When the online stopped I was incredibly sad, I kept my disk copy of the game and eventually heard a friend mention an ISO of it...from there I started up looking again and sure enough servers were a thing still! I'm still happy about that and I'm glad to be in this...though I've RPed off and on (With friends majorly so small groups) Started out with a couple highschool friends in IMVU, got into a relatively dead end group I kept running somehow and that scattered into one on one type stuff (which I still do with a friend. Being 24 now content restrictions are not a thing with me if I know you. Don't need to explain that). Though I've not been one for restrictive rps or rps with very little space, I like things at my own manageable pace as far as what I do. I'm more of a freelance form things as you go kind of guy. So I try to start out with as little as possible story wise and slowly build in both directions from there. Its easy on my head and I have fun...plus it lets me change things around if something isn't clear or good enough to go with as is. I don't mind lore based Rp. Lord knows I base a couple different ones I do off theory or game universes and build out into having it as a backdrop but not what its all about. Example: Lets say we start out with say...oh lets use A fantasy type setting. Demons angels, mythical and a number of things can be mentioned or used for characters with similar but notably different personalities and interactions. Plus with the right game or otherwise as your back drop you have plenty you can do without being outrageous. That's just a example.
I HATE Fighting in text format as not only does it have the potential to be absurdly confusing and dictionary driven (better knowledge means better action can be taken...you can cause so many natural disadvantages that way.) Some have fun with it and that's perfectly fine with me. just don't drag me into it because I personally don't enjoy it. Now action for action fighting is nice because not only can you establish ahead of time who wins, its easier to add a sort of 'spectator mode' to it and use it to describe a fight in the fewest words possible and still establish it works. All this is relevant however and I do prefer a focus on what goes on around you rather than emphasizing every detail about your world you don't see. Meaning I prefer to KNOW in character about things as I 'discover' them and do not like to imply my character is incredibly over well read (unless its the kind of character I wish to portray, its usually NOT). I prefer a character setup (If I must pick a kind) that portrays me as I am realistically. Not only does it help me in the long run it means my character will not require enhanced thinking to properly portray. For reference, I'm abnormally non conflicting, I avoid fights like a plague unless they actually have a foreseeable point. (meaning I don't pvp in games not built for it or games I feel it is pointless to try to be any good at it. I have other games I can play for it.) I AM INTROVERTED AS ALL HELL AND CYNICAL. I cannot stress that enough. Pessimistic is one thing, but I DO NOT trust people I do not know...and I don't enjoy making small talk with people I don't know. It makes me feel awkward and those last three traits DO NOT just apply to a few characters I've done. I'm actually like that. Life stories are not fun kay? I'm not going to bore ya with mine. NEXT!
Now to the real crap!
I'm hoping to find a nice quiet job starting out as a freighter ( /Fighter/Heavy Fighter/Maybe battleship, transport) hauler and explorer/mercenary. I wasn't planning on playing one that loves to fight for no apparent reason and whom doesn't mind losing. Personally I'd LOVE to play Kusari typed vessels and themes (OMG A American that likes Japanese/Chinese design and culture stuff...who knew right?) No don't laugh on my note in the () I'm serious. Eventually would like to run a modest bit of a base that does trade and helps out the people that need helping. My character would be your usual quiet or chill explorer who would love to lend a hand freight or otherwise regardless of factions, mercenaries can choose their jobs at their leisure right? I just wanted to know what all is expected as far as interaction requirements and all that. Figured some of you could help me understand stuff like that a bit better. Learning in conversation is easiest after all.
Welcome to Disco. To make big bucks you have to *This is important* back stab every single person you meet out of their credits, thus becoming the first criminal nub ever!

Or I could do that as a Mercenary...factions don't matter to me, its all in how much you get paid and the amount of friends you make after all!
Making money off of bountyhunting as a new player will be hard for you. Bear in mind that everyone around has at least been here for as long as you; your chances of winning a 1v1 would be 50%. For your goals you'll need a lot of money, you'd probably be better off joining a trading faction such as IMG, which organizes actual convoys.
[Angels]Renaissance incoming. [: Well now that that's out of the way.
Welcome to Discovery, read the rules and try to remember them. If you have any questions regarding the game feel free to contact any players tagged [Angels] in game or PM any people with white names on the forum. I hope you have a good stay and keep away from trouble.

Of course that's just advice. Welcome.
wasn't actually thinking pvp so much as PvE / exploration and supply type deals and MAYBE contracted aid jobs. Mostly I'd like to explore or team up with people who don't want to explore alone for a small fee (seriously it'd be small) Wasn't thinking of bountyhunting honestly.
Hello there and I hope you're gonna have a good time
If you're looking for a trading faction to start you might want to have a look at Wisp Innovations in my sig underneath, we provide free transports for new players

So let me see if the rules are summed up by this: Respect faction rules as given, you must inform other players of intent prior to initiating any hostile action, but being hired on the spot is permitted between players. Bases are considered targets to avoid unless you are in on a fight and dying voids you from the system for a period of time. All these seem reasonable enough. Justifiable pvp means and only transports and freighters may return to a recent death location but may only trade...fleeing a fight counts as a loss. Do not get involved in group interactions unless permitted.
I'll need to ask for a couple more of these but this sounds promising already. JUST don't expect me NOT to have to be told a couple things (again I learn best that way half the time)

I'd like to know more since a start will help me get into the kind of vessels I want...but do you have rules for none given ships or does the faction itself not mind what kind of transports art used exactly...?
