I've seen a few Zoner, Freelancer, LN and KNF ID'd players who've roleplayed that specific ship being controlled by an AI or by some sort of remote control. These have all been indie players so I wasn't sure if it was just a few new players who didn't know any better, or otherwise. I was wondering how this fits in with the rules as I couldn't find anything on it, and I actually wanted to try something like this myself.
EDIT: To clarify, I don't mean Gammu AI RP, I mean an AI created by a human specifically to operate the ship. Specifically a Zoner AI in my case.

There's no rules against you RPing a remote controlled ship or an AI one for factions. The problem is with the AI ID, your extremely limited in terms of rep and allowances. People who wish to RP say..a cyborg, AI, robot, or whatever, be it an indy or primary, are more then welcome to do so
Most people who do RP such things DO have limitations set for even themselves so they don't go overboard in the end. It all depends really. While I will let the leader of PRIME himself awnser here, its not forbidden to RP an AI while under another faction ID, as I said, limitation and such.
Edit: In that case, then its possible for humans to make AI's, there's plenty of people who can. Usually the AI ID is reserve to the more..I want to say, intelligent AI's or PRIME itself which is a completely AI formed faction. Though then again, you can RP an AI in any faction, you just got to make sure it makes sense after all then say, an AI from Omicron Psi that joined the Order, that'd be way over kill
Hmm, cyborg RP sounds pretty cool, I might give that a go as well. But what I originally meant was a ship completely devoid of any humans onboard, unless it has human cargo.

No, there is no limit to that, you can RP an AI part of any faction just as long you remember limitations. If anything, I'd ask you to speak with the PRIME leader as they got a good grasp on what humans can and cannot do in terms of AI RP
The only thing I have to say is definately don't mix up Gammuian AI with Sirian AI...
I've seen people flying AI Drones around saying they're experiments of the LSF or BAF or something of the like... so its always good to remember the difference.
-Sirian AI operate like any normal ship AI would, commanding the vessel based on their human set programming, and they're bound to certain parameters. In the case of a lack of protocol they would likely turn to combat since theres nothing else to do... just your regular human AI.
-Gammuian AI on the other hand are sentient AI from a lost experiment on Planet Gammu, they make their own protocols and are (unfortunately) bound to the AI Cruiser and AI Drone INRP, and they stick to their home since they're very defensive of the system and the planet.
I always loved AI RP, since it was so mis-represented at the time i took leadership of PRIME, but its always good to know the difference between a Sirian AI, and one from Gammu. Have fun rp'ing your character though, Sirian AI do bring their unique aspects over Gammuian AI.
Bit confused now, are you the current PRIME leader or is it PKP?
And yea I noticed Gammu and PRIME AI seems to have the AI form of nomspeak (#bringbacksetmsg) where the Sirian AI tends to have "predetermined responses" that are basic human-like responses, normal sentences and such.

I led it for a short time over a year ago, although i did a fair amount with it in the time, the current leader is in fact @PKPower
As the canon goes right now the PRIME AI is a collective of core routines (the basic structure) multiple subroutines (the players) that are (depending on their priority) more or less independent.
