The sad thing is Treewyrm so far never got to finish his Omicrons, afaik. I know what he envisioned for the Nomicron Update, and I'd love if he'd continue his work. Although I miss the old Iota.
Drag that guy in the spotlight and make him work for food o-o
Just kidding. Although there's a share of truth in every joke. Since we're out of epic things to discover, we really need something new...
TreeWyrm released what the gate does along time ago in one of his blogs on discovery. The gate itself is apparently pushed right up against the system wall, which is why you instantly die both ingame and on single player, even with god mode on. I will add, TreeWyrm was not the one designing this system, the last people working on the nomad systems for this specific project of the whole Raid system, was King Boo and Finn.
As far as I'm aware, from what King Boo shared with me some time over a year or so ago, the furthest they got in completing this was the generator itself, and that was it. King Boo never finished the raid AI system. This is also why the hole over the generator was changed several times, as the system was designed to be a snub raiding system. Later he added the cap NPC's to turn away players even more from destroying the generator in game.
All in all, the last I heard all this, was some what a year or two ago, and they were far, far from completing it, they got up to the generator AI stuff and thats when everything halted. What you got now basically is a hunkered down system, that was designed to turn players away from destroying the generator, and thats about it (All the cap spawns and the pipes in the generator tunnel).
Should I add as well, at that time, the raid system was not even in design yet. Only the gate operation and generator were. Now with King Boo gone, and TreeWyrm not really working on this, I'm guessing the chances of the raid system being finished any time soon are extremely low..that is unless, one of the two designers turn over the plans to finish it.
Edit: Idk what happens when you destroy the generator btw, all I recall is King Boo saying "don't do it."
Nothing happened when I destroyed it in SP. If they didn't want anyone to destroy it, then why did they give it hit points?
At least I see why development is slower than ideal, though. Devs start developing something they can't finish, and waste the time they have so few of on something that will never become part of the mod.
I think that developing the storyline is more important than painting masterpieces of starspheres in systems no one will visit (at least not because of their starspheres), and than fixing balance which will never satisfy everyone anyways, no matter what you do. The storyline keeps the mod going.
Look at it like at the Game of Thrones: you liked its appearance, but you truly kept watching it because you wanted to see if Sansa would kill Geoffrey.

A very cool explosion, but nothing more than that. They could make it drop valuable loot.
There is no loot that could actually he dropped from a Nomad generator, except for a Power Cell, a Derelict Artefact, Artefacts, xeno artefacts, alien organisms.
