I am a new player on the server. In my freelancing past I have played the SP story 4 to 5 times since the game was published. It's one of my favorite games, but what it really lacks is long term motivation thus I'm really happy to have stumbled over the discovery mod and server. I didn't want to register in the forum, however, the immense amount of information somewhat requires forum access. I hope you'll all forgive me when I won't read it ... yet, it quite simply is way too much for now. But I do have some quick questions which I have tried to find answers to but couldn't. So here it goes.
1. What can I do to decrease the probability of havin pirate encounters ? I'm currently running a Kusari - Rheinland trade route, which I heard was one of the safest due to "low traffic". I'm also guessing the server is emptier in the morning which also reduces the probability. Also how much of the expected profit is reasonable for a pirate to ask for (avg %). Yesterday I had an encounter with a pirate who asked for my entire cargo (5k) - is that common so as to build up pressure in order to squeeze more credits ?
2. I'm quite annoyed buy some, I'm guessing, well known bugs. I'm piloting a Ryuujin and my guess is that its size and slow turning speed sometimes result in odd angles that a trade lane is unable to handle. After hitting F3 and auto maneuvering sometimes the Ryuujin just sits in the trade lane ring. I found out that careful manual piloting reduces the chances of this happening, however, when flying trade routes I'm sometimes multitasking, thus I don't want to fly manually. Is there any way to reduces the occurrence of this bug when auto piloting ?
Also ramming's a real bother. When I'm leaving the trade lane and a ship leaves behind me it knocks my ship, and not just a bit. If several ships leave behind me I get knocked several times. 4 has been the most so far. It strikes me as unrealistic that a small fighter can knock a large, shielded train this much. I suppose there's no way to mitigate this ?
3. In SP you could skip docking scenes by pressing ESC, i.e. when the ship is flying to the mooring fixture. I don't suppose there's a way to do that in MP ?
4. Is there a way to "shrink" a waypoint ? Once I've selected a waypoint, it won't reduce in size even when I select another object. Can I "shrink" it back to it's smaller size in any way ?
5. Lastly, I'd love to fly a nomad cruiser (maybe it's a side-effect of playing the SP storyline too often), however I've read carrying a nomad ID requires special permission by an admin. Is it still possible to get friendly enough with the nomads to buy an Irra ? If so is it feasible without being able to carry the proper ID ?
Hello there, always nice to see new players :3 The forums can be quite intimidating at first, but theres a wealth of information to be found, so it's defintiely worth reading when you can. As for your questions...
1. Theres not much more it sounds like you can do to avoid pirates, aside knowing where they like to prey on Traders. Kusari/Rheinland are pretty quiet, so you've got an advantage there.
2. The trade lane problem is somewhat common to larger transports, generally 4000+ you'll get the occasional problem. I generally just skip to docking the next lane if i cant be bothered re-lining up. Same with ramming, but idk if theres much you can do to avoid that
3. I dont think docking scenes can be skipped, but you can quick-dock by, essentially, ramming the mooring point and pressing F3 then. And when you undock from a base, if you press F2 a bunch, you'll be dropped straight into flying, without an undocking cutscene.
4. I'm not entirely sure what you mean by this, but normally you should be able to deselect a target (ship, station, waypoint...) by pressing ctrl-t, maybe that will help?
5. Yes, there is a /restart command to set you up for playing as a nomad, as well as many other factions, and the Irra cruiser was recently made open to indies as well as the official nomad factions. If you do play a nomad, I would recommend paying close attention to the Nomad ID lines, as it has a few restrictions not normally on others
Hope this helps, good luck and have fun out there!
2. Big ships have issues with trade lanes. If you are tired of it, get a smaller ship. Or you need to manouver manually to the center of the lane ring.
3. No.
4. The icon or the model of the waypoint?
5. Create a new character, then type "/restart fcNomad" and then get the cruiser. However, you really should have a bit of knowledge on how to RP as nomad, as they have complicated speech patterns. See this for reference.
The thumb rule is:
The pirates, in most cases, are not to grieve you ooRPly but to fulfill their role.
However, the constant squabble between traders and pirates has never reached its end and I can tell both as a trader and as a pirate it is very wrong. Traders see pirates as ooRP tyrants, when the pirates see traders as whiny idiots. Sadly, I always had to agree and disagree with points of both sides due to have experience on both sides.
This little bird went to sleep forever. So long.
Thank you for everything.
1. Get your self Galia neutral trader and haul gold ore to planet Paris and Aluminium Ore back to London, there is hardly any pirate in Galia. Also, if Pirate asked all of your cargo, thats unreasonable demand, report him and arministrators will sanction him if case can be proved (provide screenshots , video or comunication logs).
2. Most big ships tend to stuck in trade Lines if you try to "corner dock" on them, so aproach trade line straigh from front, at 180 degree angle, aim at center of trade line (not up or down trade line) and manually press dock when no closer than 200 meters and you will have near 100% sucess. Also, you may use /stuck command in middle of trade line when you've stuck, it may shift you in trade line cruise.
You can also use NPC transport convoys taxy rade trick:
"Talk" to a at least neutral NPC conwoys you encounter, if they say they go in same direction as you, form with them, and they will auto drive you all the way to next system, including auto switching from one trade line to another!
As for fighters bumping you in transport, thats callled baloon efect, it is here for a long time and nobody was able to fix it.
4. I assume you mean waypoints editing, you can edit them manually on map by using add waypoint and delite waypoint icon, Best to use them in zoomed map mode.
So I'm guessing theres nothing to be done about that trade lane issue except manual flying. Thanks.

It's a nice work-around, sadly in non planet station I can't always figure the location of the docking point (for big ships). But eventually I'll learn. I didn't know the F2 trick. Thanks a lot for that hint, I'll be trying it next time I'm online !
Sombra Hookier Wrote:4. The icon or the model of the waypoint?
The icon itself. That purple which overexcites the optical nerve ! It's hard to click the correct object when the big waypoint icon covers half your screen. I can unselect it alright, but once selected it's size won't change. I can create a screenshot if you guys desire

Good thing I'm a sucky RPer already, that'll help a lot. *** Thanks -I- will /try/ to pay attention on that (discouraged) ***

In my honest opinion the amount they squeeze out of traders is a lot considering that you have to spent a lot of time to accumulate money. But then, to put it in your words, I might just be a whiney idiot ^^
4. Only way is to go to map and select erase all waipoints and fly without waypoints, or to manually enter your waypoints one by one in way they will be in place where will not bother you.

Is it worth it mining solo ? As far as I can see mining ships have a rather small cargo hold plus what ship with which ID is able to both mine gold in Bretonia and Aluminum in Gallia ? I gather from this guide the Hegemon is the only ship with a bigger hold. So I'm guessing for decent profits from mining there need to be at least two pilots.

Two pilots or one pilot do "mine and fill your own transport trick".
You do this by having big miner/s , in this case Hegemon with BMM ID/IFF for gold ore, and Galic big miner with Galic mining ID for Aluminium Ore, and one big transport that can travel and dock both in Galia and Bretonia, like any Rheinland or kusari trader company. First you mine ore with miner until full, then go to nearest base and park both miner and trader there. Then take your miner, stand in front base (you have to be no closer than 350m and no farter than 700 M) then drop all ore, fast dock, press F1, change to your transport, take off with transport and pick your ore, which should wait for you there if you have done everything right. You usually have to do 2 drop like this to fill your 5000 cargo ship.
Few things to be aware with this trick :
-Make sure you drop ore in said distance from base, or ore will disspeer when you switch,
-Make sure there is no NPC near you when you drop ore, or they will pick it. Fighters can only pick around 50 uints each, Freighter around 500, while transport can pick all. If NPC is no closer than 2000, you have time to do trick.
-To NOT loose precius ore first practice trick by buying cheap cargo like water or oxigen,
-If NPC do pick your cargo, you can get it back by destroying that NPC, be moderate tough destroying NPC with trader is alwais bad, becouse you will sooner or later destroy your trade reputation, even if you shoot only criminals , couse every criminal is tied some law in this game.
In any case, you hardly need miners, there is POB in Picardy right near mining field(F-1) that is alwais full or Aluminium Ore which sells for good price(buy there for 3000, sell for 10500 in London)while there is at least 5 POB near or in London that have either Gold or some other ore that sell well in Paris.

No, don't get me wrong in here and please do not misunderstand me. I just pointed out that pirates are doing their roleplay, but whole trader-pirate interaction is toxic because of two sides whining against each other and I agree with arguments on both sides. They both want to push at each other, in the name of "my argument is truer than yours" without any solution.
The whole case is a vicious cycle which powers itself from grieve from both sides. The actual truth is that both the pirates and traders have their own a-holes. And I witnessed both types of these black sheeps. The bad blood is corrupting the healthy and pleasant roleplay both sides want to fulfill the best.
