Same here... The ground is my worst enemy, I just got lucky with shooting you down, which is why it stuck in my memory. But I pull a reaver once in a while for the giggles. I mostly stay on foot, with a bit of tank play here and there.
It is so damn difficult to play in Air. I invested in the two bundles 1 for the rotary+pods for the ESF and one for the Dalton/TankBuster/Walker on the Liberator.
Aside that I invested together like 1000 certs in those.
Still I have something like 5-10 kills with the ESF and 65 in the Liberator.
I die in max 2-3 min with the Liberator when I spawn it even if I do it with organised voice with the pilot/gunner- depending who is playing what. In the ESF I die in the first sight of enemy. At the same time Liberator with Shredder,thermal and autorepair/flare is unstoppable in 1-12 engagements. It is pro farming tool still I had luck only twice or so making 20+ kills while dieing lets say 30-40 times without single kill.

I really cannot understand how he does it. I cannot hit properly even deployed sunderers with Dalton before enemy ESFs or Liberator removes me and he is just one shoting flyers.

The thing is that the three types of resources are given for a reason. They act as limiter because without them none would use infantry.
The infantry is a way too weak in this game and there are many bad practises known as infantry farming where people tend to use specific tactics and vehicles with the sole purpose to farm on the poor infantryman.
Even if I enjoy it a lot I tend to have from 3 up to 5 K/D ratio with Max or Tank while with HA or Engineer I have from 0,4 up to 0.75
For the cert price to fully update engineer class I can half update 1 air 1 max and one vehicle and do tons of kills with them So picking one of the said 3 options and investing 400-500 certs into it is really rewarding.
I get the most points per minute with my Max and it have less then 900 certs invested into it compared with around 4000-5000 certs invested in my engineer. When I unlocked my Mana AV turret and updated 2 levels of the reload for 1300 certs I was thinking that the tanks are so doomed now, in fact my 250 cert dual Comet Max done 100 times better.
Especially in the good OP ZOE times I was able to take down vehicles and infantry with my dual Comet Max.
