A spoken legend by the inhabitants on Freeport 11, Omicron Delta, recorded by Mrs. Victoria Marshby, commsman on the vessel Nightingale.
"Within the Omicrons and the Omegas, the Taus and the Sigmas, humanity is still scarce,
its growth potential limited by the vast emptiness and the limited resources availible.
Despite the many years which have passed since humanity's first forays into these hostile regions,
most of its secrets remain undiscovered, the sheer scale and danger of the numerous systems keeping them
safe and forgotten amongst the stars.
One such secret is the tale of the solitary traveller among the stars...
Even the very first settlers of the Border Worlds took note of a small craft displaying its silhouette against
the varied starscapes of their newfound home. As they attempted to approach it, it would depart for the dense
nebulae and vast asteroid fields, where its pursuers soon lost track of their elusive prey. As time passed,
tales of the strange traveller became reduced to mere legend as the earlier generations succumbed to old age.
The sightings continued, however. Occasionally, the inhabitants of Freeports would hear sounds from the outer
station hull, as if something was scratching against the station's sides. Occasionally, stations would notice an
additional entity leaving a berth as transports would undock from their moors.
Planetary defense systems eventually picked up resonance images detailing a sleek, narrow craft,
which had vanished from the location by the time the local defense turned up to investigate.
Faced with proof that their legend might actually exist, the local civilians revived interest in the old myths,
giving their myth the affectionate name 'Monadnock'; named after the isolated, small mountains which juts out of otherwise
horizontal land. This newly revitalized interest spurred the bravest, most foolhardy of explorers to set out,
trying to make contact with this unknown vessel. Up until now, however, it has remained nothing but a contact on the scanners of
numerous travellers, and any attempt at communication has been met with either static or a flurry of unintelligible clicks, whirrs, beeps and static.
Occasionally, rumors of sightings throughout most of the outer rim of Sirius surface, though they have yet to be proven true."
