Liners aren't viable for piracy because they are too slow. They thrust at 130 m/s speed, so, even a 5ker can just thrust away from them after suffering some damage.
If you want, good alternative for Pirate Transport in raider role is Behemoth. Tt's relatively small, has good arcs, is agile, and has better thrust speed than 5kers.
Bretonia Shire haven't been mentioned? Frankly, never had that ship, but I do remember, some players used it for pirating. For sure, Privateers used those.
Thanks everyone for all those awesome suggestions. However im gonna have to go with what Moriarty said work my way up for a Junker. Though im goin for Gallic Junker cause i can pirate in all houses (except gallia itself). Specifically the Assault Transport

Yeah except the Pelican has about equal firepower to a gunboat, perhaps not always the same range. Its very manoeverable and packs quite a punch for a ship of its size. Not to mention its +20 m/s over a gunboat, so it can actually keep up with transports.
Pelican with a cau would be a great choice. I use a med cloak and standard uau8 on mine. I can't pirate for cargo in it, but I always get the drop on a ship, so demanding cash is always viable. Honestly I find the Pelican is like the gunboat I always wanted. I can't believe I over looked it for so long!
