One might say that these are...some dangerous prices.
EDIT: And yes, it looks like we are starting to pay full AAA prices for betas and early-access games. Screw that.

As an investment it isn't bad. But taking a look that it's in beta, a bad decision if that's the only offer they have available.
As most are not willing to throw that amount for "everything". No less on a beta...

Pretty much.
I have the game right now, but that's because I backed for a much lesser price wayyyyyyyyyy back down the line.
Standard beta hits 29th July, which presumably means the price will drop accordingly, for anyone who feels like checking it out.
I've been checking their videos for a while and look forward to trying it out. The company knows there are players desperate enough to pay that amount and other folks to which that amount isn't a concern, so they just capitalize on that.
I'm not a gamer per se and not the type of person that try out a lot of games, but I think it all started with the early-access phenomena. They can either launch the polished stuff when its done or make an extra buck during development, so the choice is pretty obvious and a win win situation both for them and the desperate fans.
As already mentioned, they'll just do the same as others and get to a decent price by standard beta or official launch. I use Steam and I see a lot of negative feedbacks on early-access games by obviously impulsive players. The thing is, players are to blame in my opinion, as long as there's enough folks willing to throw their money at even the most blatantly bland projects, there will be people waiting to catch it.
Given the original elite and some videos I've watched, I'm just a bit concerned about their ship designs.
