Core pilots come from all reaches of Sirius to unify under a single goal: the progression of humanity towards the next evolutionary step, as well as defeating those who are a blight to humanity. Resentful attitudes towards criminals - mainly the Order - as well as heeding the call to fight the Nomad menace.
Shuttles carry new recruits from the Houses and other areas in Sirius to Capetown Station in Omicron Zeta. Once there, they undergo intense training to prepare themselves for the Edge Worlds. Pilots are instructed that they will need to be prepared both mentally and physically in order to cope with the harsh environment. However this is actually a subtle ploy to condition recruits and make them fearless warriors who hesitate little when following orders. The Core is careful to use special techniques that still preserve a pilots individuality however and prevent them from simply becoming mindless drones, otherwise that could draw uncomfortable attention from their allies.
A Core pilot undergoes mental training.
For starters, pilots will be sat in a dark room and images of the Order, or Nomads, or any of the Cores other enemies will show up on screen. When the image appears, a low but uncomfortable audio sound will be played from a hidden speaker. The purpose of this is to make the pilot feel uncomfortable and to trigger specific reactions when confronted with their enemies. Then, images relating to the Core and their allies will show up on screen. When this occurs, the sound will cease playing, allowing pilots to relax and have comfort. So in conclusion, when 'good' images appear pilots will feel comfort and peace, but when 'bad' images appear they will feel anger and discomfort. Other techniques, such as encouraging pilots to create anti-enemy propaganda as well as efforts to dehumanize the enemy as much as possible also come into play. Pilots will also be made to feel that the Core is like their 'second family' and that pilots should devote themselves to their work and lay down their lives when commanded. Although, the process is still somewhat imperfect and does not always create 'perfect' obidience. Regardless, many pilots still flock to The Core due to the high wages it pays for serving the Core cause.
Core pilots training on Planet Nauru.
Further training also includes month-long survival sessions in the harshest areas on Planet Nauru. Teams of pilots are air-dropped into uncolonised zones where they must survive the environment for the next month. Pilots are given little provisions, as well as a weapon with limited ammunition. They must ration their food carefully and try to survive against some of the native predators of the Nauru wilds. Unfortunately, some pilots are unable to complete this part of the training and either head home or (worst case scenario) die. Those who do complete the training however are fully initiated into the Core, and take part in the initiation ceremony in Athena City. From there, they will go on to serve the paramilitary and undertake various missions in order to fulfil the Cores objectives.
Do you think you could surpass the training? Do you want to make a difference in Sirius? Do you want to strive towards a better tomorrow for humanity?
