Yeah, that's the matter I've been thinking for a longer time. Freelancer ID does not allow many action, so why not to make an ID that allows players some freedom, while not allying with any greater faction?
I mean, an example:
There's a faction hostile to Liberty, but is able to maintain neutrality in Kusari. The ID can they pick would be Rheinland Military, if they want to harrass Liberty (since Kusari is not at Liberty liking as well). Or a faction that is hostile to Kusari and Gallia, but do not want to take Kusari Exiles ID - because of the limitation of ZoI; nor they want Pirate ID - because they want to be OK with Liberty and Bretonia for example. You know, there were privateers in golden age of sailing, who worked independantly but were used by the kings who weren't officially at war with other kingdom to harass their enemies - not allowed to pirate the king's ships or allies' one. It would be possible with Freelancer ID, but rules on ID does not allow initiating such action of "fire first".
Player Faction ID would be:
- A quasi-lawful ID that allow the actions of the player faction, according to the player faction's codex and diplomacy.
- Cannot be mounted on the ship without proper tag, what (would be) is abusing the server rules.*
- For more info, check restrictions of the player faction on the forums.
*i.e. cannot be wielded by players without [xxx], xxx| or whatever else tags.
It would go like this:
Ship tagged AGF|. (Say, Anti-Gallic Federation.)
Cannot mount BAF nor LN due to ID restrictions on ZoI.
They would be able to actively attack Gallia and pirate ELF in Kusari, unless not caught by RKS/KNF, even with unlawful status in Kusari but lawful everywhere else (except Gallia).
It's already possible with SRP ID request - for example, afaik there's bunch of KNF ships with modified ZoI, operating from Coronado. More direct example would be Order| with own unique faction ID, with more allowances, for example bringing capital ships to systems with jumpgates. Junker Marauders are another group with own ID.
I know about that, but it is more about the fact that SRP costs a lot... What just scare players from asking from SRP (escpecially, if they are barely on Disco). There are players that does not see any faction fit themselves, but Freelancer ID limits them, being an irony of the part "free" in that word.
Or just use it as a temporal ID, until faction has SRP fulfilled.

Let's be honest, SRP doesn't make things available so much as not make things available.
I think rather the SRP makes people commit to actually thinking through what they want instead of giving any lul group out there the opportunity to create ZOI-related problems.

It makes people commit to forum posts and pretty pictures.
However, that's for an SRP topic and this is slightly going OT, so I'll show myself the door.
Before that though, the Bretonian Privateer roleplay seems to suit the situation mentioned. Not sure if the QCP ID still exists though.

Something like that, I believe.
You know, Farmer's Alliance ID only has rephacks against KNF, KSP, Kishiro and GMG. It is likely to be able to dock on samura and Hogosha bases, and their own. If the laws of other nations don't have rules against them, they can also travel to Rheinland and Liberty, as long as they aren't declared unlawful by the local authorities. They can't however act against their "enemies" outside their zoi, same as with any other faction ID.
Just call it a FA group who focuses on Gallia foreigners more than Libertonian *synth foods* heathens.
FA complements very well the exiles zoi, since it has full range inside Kusari space, while exiles have marginal reach and full action in the Tau systems.

As for the privateer thing, freelancers can act on bounty boards of naval faction which present bounties against war targets, probably in areas out of the Navy zoi (not sure if Liberty gov has this, or if you could maybe request them.).
