i won't start arguing or typing wall of text, i ll give only my 2 cents here
If running a multiplayer server is to restrict more options on players making them feel so uncomfortable then people will definitely leave that server - because what make people play on a certain server is what the server gives from options to make the server an interesting place for others to join and in order to do so, the server administration would need to start applying what makes the players satisfied, and once they start making what satisfy the administration of a certain server only regardless of the players, then that server will be a great place for the administration to play in, but indeed not the players
I was a member of the group of people who said "Jump trading is bad and anyone who jump trades should feel bad." I am the ex leader of a faction who was probably the first to Jump 4 Barges. The first to make Jump trading a business. A Activity Hub. Then I left. And came back and saw that the most active factions were the ones who Jumptraded. Any faction that did not Jump was Dead. I was saddened and ashamed. Then I sat down one night in TS with some one I thought was a friend and agreed with me . They told me about this idea of Stimulating Inde Faction members people not part of a tagged group to come and join and official faction to have fun with out being in the faction. I thought this was madness. No faction would do this would they? Then he introduced me to another man. A man I always thought was a moron. An idiot that was so self centered and unwilling to deal with anything interesting and all he did was Metagame and powergame to get his way. I wanted money and was like hey Im a junker can I dock here? So I get rights and began mining tons of Pscrap made bookoo bucks I still believed Jumptrading was bad so I didn't take part. Then one day I was trusted with a job. Move some cargo from this base. Which is normally faction restricted in order to be used for a Jump later which you can come on. Cool. So the whole day I spent moving the commodity to the base and then when It was time to Jump I got on and I learned that I wasn't going to shell out tons of money the first trip with on him. That was so cool. Back in my old faction we had to pay for this stuff. But this guy is offering me. a person who had so violently fought him fought to screw him over. get him down and out take him down a chance to make money for FREE. So I went I figured one time wouldn't hurt. Then I had some much fun. I heard we were jumping again another time. So I was back again eventually I joined the faction. My hopes for Disco had fallen I was considering leaving. But this breathed new life into a dying game for me. I was so having so much fun and when I got a Job that was something I could look forward to when I got home congregating with friends. having a good laugh and just plain enjoying my self. I wont lie my activity in Disco is waning. Every now and then there is a spark for me to play more and I take it but all too often things that are fun that me and multiple people have fun doing get destroyed and torn down for "Balance reasons".
That is my hand. My story. Take it as you wish. But I will say. Very few things are keeping me here the simple fact that the update is around the corner is enough to keep me here but if its not good I have a good feeling that me and a lot of other people will be departing and it is a shame.

M'kay so yeah I had a wall-o-text. That's simply because I had numerous role play opportunities with each of the toys that 4.86 gave us and continues to the current version. Because I had characters in every house and doing many different things I experienced it not just as a jump trader or a hunter or a cop or a salesperson, or a pirate, but as all of that. and more.
Quite frankly, a game mechanic such as jumping doesn't make or break any role play. Role play is what you make out of what you have. I had tons of role play in game with the toys and before the toys. I'm neither for nor against it. I have no stake in the final decision. My jump ships and barges and mercs and cops all got wiped, but I have had more experience with all the role play facets of these in game toys than most.
All I can say is if you're a pirate/cop/navy/merc/whatever sitting on a lane and whining because there's another group in the next system jump trading then get off the danged lane and go find them and role play with them.
Role play is what you create and due to your creation of interaction. Sometimes it comes to you, sometimes you have to go looking for it. I did and I had a great time no matter what side I was on.

I find all this discussion dumb founded. In a server where official factions metagame the hell out of other factions and players and barely drop 2 lines before engaging and ruining the afternoon of several people with little to no RP, where trolling and harassing are rampant, jump trading is the least of the problems.
Rational Jump Trading? Sure, it's rational for the people involved, because they're the ones making all the credits and RPing inside their own group. To all other external parties, such a thing does not exist.
Jump Trading is only good relative to the people doing it because it's a big cash cow. If I jump trade 24/7 and make tons of cash without the hassle of normal trading, then of course I'm going to be more inclined to justify it and less inclined to give a toss about everyone who might want to RP with me.
And I agree with Garrett: Jump Trading should just be removed altogether for transports.

I don´t know how much you were using jumping so how much your faction activity was influenced by restriction. But another junkers JM- lost few days too and I´m not aware they were using jump trading so I doubt it´s caused by the restriction trial period.
Yeah, I'm pretty convinced the tracker is busted because JM spent ages filling up Spire on sunday and our activity didn't increase at all. It decreased. Welp.
JM never jump trades. I don't let them partake in it.
I've heard that a handfull of Congress lost the will to play once this trial week was introduced. But like I said, tracker might just be a bit bugged.

Ty.
PS: The tracker is not updated in real time.
I was referring to some of the posts before my own. I cba to quote them.
