So this was something I wanted to bring up for quite some time now, but I never got the chance to type something proper up, so here we go.
The economy in Disco is a fickle thing. The credits are much more easier to earn than they were in, say, 84. Mining, jumptrading to a lesser extent and other group-focused activities have not only taken the activity away from solo trading or such, but also has flooded the Disco economy with a mass amount of credits, where people are not even that phased if their characters or banks get wiped from inactivity- they simply get more money.
The grinding curve in Disco reaches only up to the point where you get access to a medium transport- something most player-hungry trade-orientated groups are more than glad to provide without charge.
This makes any new content added to Disco being consumed almost within hours of play. Open world games outside Disco often thrive off their longevity and new patches bringing new goodies to play with often do not allow said goodies to be only acquired by default funds. There is a reason for that.
This is not to allow jaded vets of the game to get a new patch, bother to log ingame for a few hours, before simply using the few billion credits they have kicking around and gathering dust to burn through all of the newly added items within hours.
Disco should not be an exclusion. We need to add new content to the game, which requires genuine ingame activity to be put in, rather than default credits. Perhaps it is time for us to advance to Mk III ships? A version, which is notably but not overly so better than the original, but can only be built on POBs or completing missions or something along those lines.
As long as a vet is willing to try this new equipment in the form of ships, guns and other, people should be given a goal to grind towards. You can say whatever you want about grind, but people need something to do. It is good for them.
Powercreep is something we need to start using, as bad as it sounds. Abandoning old technology for newer, better one, rather than trying to make moneysinks, because as long as Disco credits do not have a IRL monetary value such as Plex in EVE, we cannot hope for people to end up having to get on for money, rather than just RP or pvp.

Agreed. Even if I'm a lazy bastard and don't want to make a lick of credits because I find it boring as hell, I find it insanely more boring to, let's say, go to a trader and before I even write something get asked how much I want. That's just showing how rich some people are. And that's the reason our dearest LoLNS still exist.
Economy's broken. Simple as that. Making credits a tad bit harder to own will probably get people to stop having a billion chars, each char with a billion credits on it. Probably in less than a day too. ))
I don't think economy is "broken", but I admit I see Spazzy's point here.
Who played Diablo 2? One of the coolest things about that game was insane number of available items. Unique items, special items, giving additional abilities, etc.
Imagine ultrarare codename AU9, found only in one random wreck in some nomad-infested system. People would pay a lot for it.
I'm adding lockboxes in the next patch. 90% chance to get 1$ and 10% chance you get 1 discocoin. You need 100 discocoins to get one of the new ships. Each lockbox cost 10$.
Joke aside, we could add other currencies, but it would be all handled through flhook. Question being: do we need it?
Not really.
I mean, it is not like these items will not be put onto the market later on for a huge price. So it is not like people with money and no real will to grind will miss out.
That's sort of the point. It will not force you to go grind, but it also will let you throw your dusty credits at the screen for it.
I think the main thing right now is to agree on WHAT to add. The MK III Ships I suggested are just an example. I am sure we can do better than that.

for starters we should remove all loot-able codenames that can be found in wrecks, because it's a quick get rich thing in less than 10mins and instead build them on pobs and let players have their own economy around them
or we can go even further, let's say from now on we no longer have to buy ships from npc base but rather have to build them on POBs, just think about it how many players will be forced to trade once again no matter how much wealth they have in their banks(or if they rather choose to pay enormous amounts to other players to produce them what they want)
Freighters and civilians snubs(no sabre) should still be available to buy from npcs base but anything else will require to be build from ground up
@ alternative currency, that's one way,but how can we earn it?
suggesting ship being scrapped at a junker pob for new currency and replaced with a new civilian freighter
People want to believe that God has a plan for them.
They don't wanna believe that anyone else does..
What I would like to see is some genuine way to make money for players that are mostly combat-oriented, be it with caps or snubs. Because now, let's face it, grinding can only be done as a trader.
In that case we should ask DSE to open up their old bounty board. You could shoot yourself up a billion in around a week.

An FLhook bounty board would be more fun then the blanket bountys we now have..
