I have been wondering recently about two factions, which are Independent Miners Guild and Bounty Hunters Guild. Both of them are independent, but the problem always was if they are factually speaking with one voice and act as one - being one political body, or those are just under one flag, being completly independent from each other groups - working on their own behalf?
I'm more pointing here onto IMG (but on BHG here as well), because I think it is just loose federation of miners, being rather more anarchistic (but following their own code and house laws) than center-powered.
I can't bring GMG here as an example, because they are more a small nation itself.

I was more asking about the lore thing. If there can be several IMG/BHG entities that don't need to be even allied with themselves, having different laws in the "inner circle". Especially when IMG card reads "loose affiliation of the miners", or something like that.

Lore says it is a (rather large) group of miners that found it good to bunch up and consequently be stronger.
I do not see it as a coroporation, nor a mini-house and all the things that have been mentioned over the time.
In the game, I handle it this way:
The IMG| - as the official faction - is the mainstream body of the Guild, they have a majority in the Guildmaster meetings and they generally steer where the guild is going (represented and backed by the Faction Right game mechanics).
However, as we are a Guild, there are other thoughts/concepts and they are valid as well. Example: [HH], who definitely are IMG, belong into the Guild. I see them as part of the Guild (IMG ID), and in a Guildmaster meeting of the whole IMG, they would be invited, ofc. They would form e.g. the radical left wing (close to Hessians).
I imaging the Guild like today's big political party that have moderates (here: IMG|, officials) and can have different nuances, like the much more extreme [HH], or can be putting their focus on certain regions, part of the lore, etc. Therefore heterogenuous ideas can co-exist in a Guild, while it would be pretty hard to have the same in a corporation.
Hope that helps.
That's how I imagine and roleplay in IMG.
