The above thread interests me. I am wondering, does the ID protect a player from being killed by another player of the same ID?
As an hypothetical example, if I am playing a Corsair in a capital ship that is RPing with a BowEx player and a Corsair in a bomber comes along and ganks my interaction, am I prohibited from performing retribution on the bomber?
I ask because my preferred response in that case is "discipline" with extreme prejudice.

There's likely to be some additions to the official rules soon explicitly listing shooting ships with the same ID. Despite people's confusion, there have been several examples of sanctions for shooting players of the same ID (ex. Black.Scorpion). If there isn't consent between both parties, the "RP justification" many critics are waving around is powergaming, plain and simple. Even when there was some agreement (ex. infighting between Outcast factions), the admins were forced to arbitrate and it got pretty ugly.
In your example, the BowEx player you're RPing with is definitely open to attack or piracy by other players, and it's within their right to do so. If you feel robbed of an interaction, the most you can do is tell the other pirate off inRP and PM the BowEx player to let them know you're interested in continuing things elsewhere, on the forums, or at another time.
There's another question that comes from it, relation between ID's and hired Freelancers.
Player "A" with unlawful ID "X" hires a Mercenary. (Freelancer ID).
Player "B", that carries unlawful ID "X" comes in and decides to either kill or pirate that Mercenary.
Player "A" is dissatisfied with that and decides that he isn't going to watch like the employee whom he paid money to do something simply dies.
Is player "A" with unlawful ID "X" allowed to fire at player "B" to protect his merc? Or is Player's "B" attack on Player's "A" mercenary equals attacking Player "A" ?
Why I'm mentioning Unlawful ID's here - it's because those usually have the "can destroy/pirate various stuff in their ZoI" line.

I believe that player A could protect his employees from people aggressive to them, although an employer wouldn't have much reason to submit itself to the employee's situation and diplomacy.
What happened in the real case however was Player A attacking B, because B decided to not assist A and X when they were under attack from lawfuls. What B decides is his decision alone, and did not give player A or X any cause for them to initiate combat against the observing player, which is of the same faction.

I am not trying to be a jerk about this, but my read of the above is, the player that is pirating or just outright destroying the BowEx ship has abused the spirit of the ID by intentionally screwing over the first player, but will get away with it because they didn't abuse the letter of the ID?
Not the point I am trying to make at all. What I was after is when it is appropriate to retaliate against an "ally" that either abuses their status or actively flouts the situation.
In a lot of these unlawful organizations' lore, they come off all, you caused me to lose face! If that is all bluster, then I need to know before I blow someone away because of how they acted, then are rules lawyering and hiding behind the ID.
