"How long you reckon will take for the Council to gather all that cargo we asked them for?" said Daniel as he was undressing his bulky space suit. Jason was just shutting the brand new bulkhead door. The latches were doing a loud metallic sound as they closed one by one. "Can't possible tell, I got no words from them apart that will take a while...I'd go with at least one more week from now. Meanwhile, we've done progress on all other tasks." Jason sat down next to Daniel and started undressing his suit. "I'm glad we've finished the connection between the new Module and the rest of the station. Just a bit of work here and there and then we can have it pressurized. The Module comes along nicely as well..." Jason was looking through the window overlooking the half-built module.
The construction was doing visible progress. It was the most difficult and complex job so far and that could be seen in the number of people working around different areas. Some teams welding beams and cross-beams to make the inner-framework, others just behind them placing the first layer of platting, mounting thermal and radiation insulation on the inner side of the new platting or reinforcing the bars. The idea was to set the general shape of the compartments from fabrication stage, in order to cut on time. Once the Module would be pressurized, other teams would go in for cabling, equipment installation and finishing touches. So far, those teams were revising Station's cabling and repairing where necessary. their big test was yet to come...
Jason and a few technicians were checking the station's hologram to decide what would be the best way to re-organize the housing spaces. Now that the Heat Sinks were coming in, the construction phase was almost to an end and the next job on the list would involve moving equipment from the old Military area to the new one. Even so, the new working space was generous enough and the job was considered to be completed without much hassle.
Concerning space usage, Both Daniel and William proposed the new Module to be shared by both Military and Science Nuclei. After all, one section of the new module was more than enough to house all the equipment needed for the new Military quarters and the Command Room. The idea of having more space for Laboratories and production facilities was not even a bad one in itself. The only thing the assesment team could identify as problematic was to move the quarantine area from its current location. Nevertheless, Jason saw reason in this new proposal and accepted to follow it.
The upper side of the new module would house the Military quarters while the lower half would be the new Lab and production area. This would mean a bit more tinkering to do here and there and a bit of hassle with moving the quarantined area, but was doable with the resources at hand. Jason was waiting now just for some blueprints from the Science Nucleus, to see how the main Lab will fit along with existing production facilities in their soon to be new location

The last bits of equipment were put in place by the hard working crew on Thabit just the day before. Jason was at his desk typing in some last lines concerning the overhaul project. All in all, the station re-structuring took some 3 weeks longer than expected but the job was done in a proper way. The new Module was already in place and running fitting a new Lab area and the brand new Military Nucleus command center. The contracts were finished, hauling done, finally the guys from the Logistics could take a well deserved rest, apart from the day-to-day maintenance.
Even so, some things were left to be taken care off later one; the station's shield generator was closing to it's end-life period, the surrounding area was still not well protected, thus some platforms could come in handy, but all this were a different story, and the info related to those on some files somewhere in the Directorate office. Neither Jason, nor others could be bothered with such tings these next couple of days. The feat that ended deserved a celebration.
