The problem is, there are way too many loopholes. And the problem is not that such acts can be discouraged when the person is caught doing it, but rather IF they are caught. And IF the person it is used against can prove they had done so.
Imagine if every single person was able to run two or more copies of freelancer like this. Whenever something bad happened, the first question someone would ask would be "Did that level 13 near Manhattan who watched me undock and take the lane was the guy's alt?" for every single interaction.
This sort of possibility, even though it is only a possibility, would be very harmful for the way we perceive interaction on the server.
I would like to see multiboxing being a thing, but it is just not worth the problem. Not to mention not all people have strong machines, so it would discriminate people with low end systems as they would not have the ability to get the same advantages as others.

Are we pretending that the richer of the group don't have VPN servers and don't know how to change MAC addresses?

You are missing the point of that whole paragraph though.

You're right. I don't get it. There's no way to effectively prevent someone from doing it so I don't understand the point of enforcing it because it essentially just prevents the "people with low end systems" from getting an advantage.
I get that half your post is an ideology argument but if people can essentially do it already then it doesn't really mean much.

The rules don't prevent anyone from doing anything. Are you suggesting we get rid of them all since they will not "effectively prevent someone from doing it?"

Speaking as a pirate , I would say: "Yes, yes, oh my god, please YES!" especially if I have friends with transports.
Speaking as a trader, I would say the same, as long as they don't block my lanes.
Speaking as someone who multiboxed a trader with 4 screens in windowed mode, I would say making a convoy is extremely inefficient, compared to flying with 4 windows in different places. I would add that there should be a tutorial on how to multibox with windowed mode, so you boost interactions on the server.
1 pirate camping in 4 places at the same time = more interactions for the pirate.
1 trader flying 4 ships = more profit for the trader, more profit for the pirate, less boredom for everyone.

It is still an unfair oorp advantage - thus cheating.
And if you have a TLAGSNET enabled LPI character on the other end of Skype, that's any better?

There's no way to know if it's been broken or not if someone does basic things to avoid being caught.
Sure by all means punish a 14 player log on with a 5k convoy powertrading a cap 8 in one run. No point flinging the book at someone transferring between characters and logging 2 characters.

14 5ks cost a lot more than a cap 8.
