There's a very fine line between respecting your roleplay whilst preserving fun, and meeting your roleplay at all costs irrespective of the enjoyment of the other player(s). The problem is a lot of players in that PRIME thread seem to have no issue with crossing that line nor do they see the implications of their mentality. Everyone can still have fun and ensure that roleplay is met (i.e players do not need to be uber ganked, and the message of a 'home system' and the treatment of hostilities within that system can be expressed without such tactics) without resorting to what is, in the long-run, destructive behaviour.
Although I think you should be very careful not to directly equate fun to PvP. They're not the necessarily same thing. Fun itself is a combination of every single mechanic and concept we can find in the game, from RP to PvP to balance to events etc.
So if I understand the OP correctly, for example it´s completely fine for Rheinland lawfuls to gank 1vs5 or even worse any unlawful in New Berlin, hunt snubs with (solaris) caps, do the missile spam etc...because that how is supposed to be inRP every time they stick foot in the system.
Sounds to me like recipe for really immersive roleplay environment...
...which will be really empty soon because no one would have fun there and everybody would avoid contact with us to not be ganked into oblivion.
No thanks, I don´t want to play this game this way.

What I understood from the comments of the AI side in their feedback was that a "message" - or rather, multiple warnings - was (were) apparently not enough.

Are you sure it wouldn't be just a capital system where lawful elements can feel more safe than elsewhere in the house? And even then it would be just one system.
It really wouldn't have to be more than one home (capital) system per house or paramilitary faction, or even just the vicinity of a home base, everywhere else people could legit cry rivers for fair play without having to give a damn about making sense inRP.
Is expecting to understand that if one charges into someone's own home guns blazing, one should expect the fiercest opposition possible, too much? Is that too much to expect from the "gameplay > roleplay" half of the community?

It seems you missed the point. I am not talking about the side who has inRP justification to gank in their own homesystem. Referring to your scenario, I am talking about the unlawful, who should and must consider in his RP, that he "possibly" can expect to die in this system if he feel to access it. It's pretty much just a bad RP behavior, ignoring immersion of the situation and pretty much disrespectful to cry afterwards.
Sorry to say, but I have never never never never seen more than 1-2% of players seriously RPing being scared of a situation or caring about their own life or vessel. This is ****** stupid and very bad RP and goes sadly through out the community. Seriously just a few players here care about the consequences they do in case of danger and that annoys me pretty much. With or without a gank it doesn't make a difference here. The unla
Any region which is flagged "Discovery" is entirely meant to be or possibly is a danger zone within RP. Basically peaceful interaction should and can mostly take place at neutral locations or only by invitation.
I don't...what?
TL;DR it is ''cool'' to not RP seriously. It is a trend that started somewhere around 2011-2012. Mostly due to the fact that factions RP were completely disregarded as gallia was shoehorned in. So people went "Why even bother then?" and so they did not.

How the bloody hell do we always end up blaming Gallia for anything and everything in the end? It literally sounds like "people ignore other's RP because Gallia".

Okay, the next character I'm gonna RP will be Jesus Christ, the all powerful holy god of Space. Srp an Admin shield so it goes along and shoot whoever doesn't hail the persona. Because RP right?
i have deja vu or maybe 3-4.
Well, could you stop copying and repeating this troll statement again and again? Easy said. If you feel to RP such an invincible vessel, try to SRP it. Funny, eh?

Thing is though, and I've said this many many times here, you can't change how other people play the game. The only person's actions you can dictate are your own. At the end of the day the whole roleplay vs gameplay argument comes down to opinion, and all you can do to deal with someone whose belief is that you should throw as much force at the enemy as possible is to come prepared.
Totaly agree here, I usualy never do that with Durandal but here it is. 8|
