I also agree with the decision for the most part. Being on the receiving end of the discussed behavior sucks. It even drove me away from the server for a time. I can't speak for everyone here, but I'm here for the RP. The meta/powergaming and trolling was getting out of hand. Avoidance of breaking the rules while still maintaining the mindset of destroying other factions just for personal gratification does not promote a healthy environment for role play. I will not point my finger at this group and say "every single one of you is responsible", however, over the years we have lost some great members because nobody would stand up and put a stop to this.
How can this even be discussed when people don't even know what actually happened to cause the said ban? All people can do is speculate and go on their gut feelings and relationships with those people.
It's virtually impossible to comprehend how idiotic people can be. The Admin team clearly banned people for a reason and it wasn't a decision that was made lightly. I seriously hope they stand their ground with this, get back up from all the flak they're taking. If people for a second try and justify a reason for certain parties who were banned to actually be here, then clearly you're blind or just plain ignorant to the fact a number of said parties are frankly trash and have no right to be here. The attitude toward the staff frankly disgusts me from a number of those who oppose this decision.
Granted there have been some legitimate queries and concerns about some of those who were, in fact, banned. That's fine. However there are a number of things i've seen on here this evening which, honestly. Makes me question why they don't just outright ban those individuals also. The Admins take flak for absolutely everything they do, that isn't fair in my book since they do in fact want to have fun here also. They also volunteer. The people they removed were in fact hampering this for other people, so i applaud the decision outright. When people are driven away from the server/game because of action taken and are flamed outright for having an opinion? no. That isn't on. You know who you are.
It isn't just the Admins either, friends of mine ended up getting personally attacked over Skype for supporting the Admin team. Hey no. That isn't happening. The second this occurs, you frankly relinquish your right to be here in my opinion. Anybody attempting to justify this is frankly in the wrong. Plain and utterly in the wrong. You can't dispute it. So just stop. Again, you know who you are. This is generalized by the way as to not attack people in this thread. Oh and to add to this, Skype, while not directly linked to Discovery. Throwing insults and abuse at folk through this is still classified as a problem regardless of where it is.
I really have no other way to describe it to be frank. I'm one of many people who support the decision to rid this place of the problem children. I do support the ban decision 100% and the Admin team shouldn't cave in to a few of said children stamping their feet to get what they want. Please don't, staff. Don't let these guys somehow drive good people away from this game. I urge people who actually support the Admin team to do the same. Since really, the morale of a few good people around here are seriously in the gutter right now as the result of actions/attitudes taken by those opposing this decision outright. Oh and for the record, the people who seem to be crying the loudest. Don't actually play the damned game.
P.S. Probably not the place for this. However this needs to be said. I stand behind every word i've written, and so do a few others.
I don't have any particular attachment to anyone who was banned, but I'm interested to see what will happen when the max server pop is thirty.
No, you didn't ban thirty people, but the incoming "ONLY SIX PEOPLE WERE BANNED STOP OVERREACTING" is a straw man argument. Those six people - four of whom were faction leaders - were people who motivated others to log. They were people that myself and my faction interacted with on a daily basis.
No, the admins shouldn't cave to people stamping their feet because "MUH INJUSTICE", but I'm honestly not sure that Discovery can recover from a blow like this. We'll see.

I agree. I can already see those factions dead and server pop. gettin' lower and lower. Bad days for Disco, but as you said, hopefully everything will be alright... hopefully.
I for one was told I was scum, that I was horrible, as well as a couple people tell me to watch my back over the next few days.
I'm sorry, but as harsh as the actions today may have been, threats like that (and I don't care if you're joking or making idle threats that you won't actually do) is never ok. I've worked my ass off for Disco, and while there have been changes I didn't agree with, nor decision that were easy, they were always discussed with everyone, and discussed at length before being applied. But when a video game becomes a stress and no longer fun because of the amount of s*** talking and negative attitudes from the community, as well as having someone go, and I quote, "I don't feel like sharing certain spaces with them [admins] as a class of people because today's decision", makes you question why you're here in the first place. There were reasons why everyone got banned. Did I agree with them all, not necessarily, but I saw where the others were coming from. I'm sorry you don't see that, and I'm sorry you felt that it was a shock and unfair.
But threatening this server, and threatening people, even if done as a joke, is a line you do not cross. I stepped down as an admin, because frankly I don't see the point in busting my ass to help this community when I'm being threatened and being labeled as a bad person and being s*** talked to all the time because I have a green in my name. Say what you want, agree or disagree with me, I don't care frankly. But the actions of the community today have shown some colors I never expected to see from a video game community. It makes me sad, angry, and disappointed.
But go on, yell, kick, berate the staff. All they wanted was for people to be nice and not be dicks to eachother, and at least be positive some of the time if you can somehow manage that. Apparently that was too much to ask for. Frankly, you disgust me.
If anything my support to the admins increased over the past few hours.
I lost 75% of my disco friends to leaving or breaks.
I got scolded at, ridiculed and even recieved death threats from people i wont name over voicing my support for 4 out of 6 bans. Today i saw what kind of immaturity is rampant in this community. If anything right now, i'd say good riddance due to this.
This Galaxy is vast; its wonders and beauty are almost unfathomable. But the galaxy also hides dark secrets, some of which have lain dormant since the beginning of time itself. There is a danger in secrets, both in seeking and in knowing. Some things are meant to be hidden from view. Some mysteries defy understanding, and sometimes even the things we think we know are untrue. Some secrets should remain untouched.
I've been sitting here examining the various cases and fires going on. I've sat by and kept people from going out of their way to delete everything and leave, because of a select group of people being out on a crusade, threatening members of this community with death and other things. Insulting them for doing what they believe is right.
Are you really so blind to try and morally justify such actions against other people? A screen is all that stands between you and that person. You might not be looking at them face to face, but that gives you no right to treat other people the way you are. I don't care if you're angry. I don't care if you're upset. I don't care how entitled you think you are. I don't care if you think you've been wronged. There is absolutely no reason to ever justify talking to another person that way. If this is how you're going to approach a situation that you think is wrong, then you can be out the door with the others in my opinion.
This decision was made for a lot of reasons. It isn't unjustified. It isn't unwarranted. Some of the aforementioned people have had plenty of warnings, tempbans and sanctions for their actions. Their unwillingness to change their behavior was prudent, and their intentions here had become less than healthy for the community in its entirety. While it sucks that your friends were banned, it wasn't unjust. Over time, they were given plenty of opportunity and warnings to change their approach to the community and behavior. They failed to adhere to that. Even I question some of the names on the list, but I've written it off as not knowing enough details as to why. I don't need transparency to be satisfied and enjoy the community. If one of my friends were banned, I'd probably be mad too, but I'd never go out of my way to lower myself to petty insults and threats.
The staff work very hard and deal with more backlash and negativity than you could even fathom. They've poured countless hours into trying their best to work with what they're given in a small and overly toxic community. I'm not surprised that Drrobe left the team. I'm not surprised that Garret and Aerelm did the same. Why bother catering for people who will never be satisfied with their surroundings? This community caters to a largely silent playerbase, and while it might seem that a lot of people are voicing their opinions, you're all still the loud minority here. The team values the efforts put in to the community by each member, but when a member proves to be more trouble than they're worth, and are more harmful and detrimental to the server health than beneficial, they're gone. They're given chances, they're warned. They're probated. They're banned. This is a build-up of time, and honestly this decision should've come a lot sooner.
Stop crying about injustice. Stop attacking the staff and the others in the community. You're a herd of manchildren throwing a tantrum, and you're giving them more incentive to discredit your angry approaches.
After reading what Finn wrote, id like to say that you should be ashamed of yourselves.
Its a fucking game!!! If you want to make death threats to someone regardless who it is over a fucking game you should go haveyourself checked out, because i seriously doubt your intelligence in that case. Today disgusted me so bad, so very bad, especially several people.
What also stuns me is that the ones who are crying the loudest dont even play the game. Honestly, you should have no say in this at all.
